Massacre tale near Lost Island Lake echoes grim past
A long, fragmentary reminiscence recounts a violent incident near Lost Island Lake involving a red beard rider named Trumbull and his Indian wife. Neighbors Anthony and son Norman track, avoid, and escape a raid as horse theft and fire threaten their cabin, with a later pursuit by Captain Stern’s men leading to a tense showdown and the old couple’s disputed innocence.
