Longtime U S resident Jens Kirkegaard marks fifty years living in the United States since arriving from Skjern Denmark. Born March 12 1906 he left Denmark at age 20 aboard a ship to Ellis Island with friend Chris Holch and built a life through farming, teaching English and public service in Iowa and beyond.

Master Sergeant Richard A. Pringle, son of Mrs. Lesceile Pringle of Emmetsburg Iowa, was named Outstanding Senior Noncommissioned Officer of the Year at Athens Airport Greece. A social actions technician with the 7206th Air Base Group, he was recognized for leadership skill and duty performance. He is a 1959 Emmetsburg High School graduate and earned an associate degree in sociology in 1975 from the University of Maryland European Division at Athens. His wife Vera is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Wilson of Spirit Lake Iowa.
