Mrs Dan Elwood was named chairman of the 1977 Breath of Life Campaign in Graettinger by Raymond A Palis president of the Iowa Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The campaign runs in September Cystic Fibrosis Month to raise funds for research and care for children affected by CF and related lung diseases.
Gerald Gjerde nephew of Mr and Mrs Omer Gjerde was ordained into the American Lutheran Church at Bethany Lutheran Church Emmetsburg on Sunday June 26 Reverend Erling A Hamen conducted the service Born in Emmetsburg June 13 1951 he is the son of Gilbert and the late family He graduated Wartburg College 1973 and Luther Theological Seminary 1977 He served as intern at Lord of Life Ramsey Minn and did chaplaincy training at Anoka State Hospital He is married with son Ryan Thomas and will serve as pastor at Calvary Lutheran Church Sebula Iowa installed July 3 1977 A reception followed at Bethany Fellowship Hall.
Congressman Berkley Bedell organizes a one day Small Business Conference at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake on July 7. Officials from 17 agencies join regional and national leaders for hour long seminars to boost two way government business relations. A luncheon address by A Vernon Weaver and an Open Door session with Bedell highlight the program. Registration is $7 for lunch and facilities. pre register via Bedell’s Fort Dodge office. Separately, Robert Jessen of Dolliver was killed in a Mercer Pennsylvania truck crash after delivering a Winnabago motor home.
Ben Hofstad of Emmetsburg and Dale Van Daalen of Estherville intern at Graettinger State Bank starting June 7 under President Ken Edge. They learn all banking areas, from teller duties to accounting, with praise for their cooperation and potential.
Graettinger Midgets lost 10-8 at Everly on June 24. Everly tallied seven in the first inning, while Graettinger could not recover. Pat Brobst Scott Reynolds and Bruce Masters each scored twice for Graettinger as Reynolds took the loss and Brian Westergard relieved.
