The Red Cross ladies introduce a 90-star service flag honoring local men in the war. Funds totaling 18.40 were raised by 25 cent donations and a bachelor club bake sale while 5.65 remains in a service fund. Lt Hession, in the 88th Division, travels from Des Moines. transport duties strain the unit’s logistics amid rain washouts and detours.
A late night fire in the east part of town destroyed Ben Nichterns home. Firefighters arrived after the blaze had a strong start. The uninsured house burned to the ground. Nichtern said cooking pork caused the incident when water boiled over and grease ignited. Water used on the flames worsened the fire. No one was reported injured though the loss is total. Found-Gold Leon Knudtson of Fallow recovered a lost gold watch found by Ted Suss, who sought the owner via a Times ad. Frank Sullivan from this place now serves in France in railway transport. He previously served with National Guard, then the 16th Regiment, then quartermaster corps, now in railway work. A coal allocation advisory warns timely orders to avoid winter shortages.

Free draw and Red Cross dinner. Terms cash under 10 dollars or credit on bankable notes eight percent interest. Gradland will cry the sale Jevison will be clerk. Blair moves away and aims to make the day biggest in Hoping history.
The funeral for Edward Hanson was held Friday at 12 o clock in his city with services at his home and at the Norwegian Lutheran church at one o clock led by Rev. S O Sande. Pallbearers included John Clemenson Frivals Maddigan Clarence Hansen Sam Bondhus and Thos FE Thompson. The obituary had appeared in last week s Times. Ongoing summer trip planned by J P GC Larsen family includes Albert Lea Minnesota and Regina Canada with O H Raleigh covering Woodmen lodge duties in Gracttinger during absence.
Emmetsburg and Algona merchants quarrel over trade and advertising. Algona Courier suggests Emmetsburg firms abandon storefronts and use their lots for farming while 40 percent of trade from Emmetsburg territory goes elsewhere due to lack of up-to-date advertising. People tend to buy where asked to trade.

Ludvig Larson buys the moving picture business in Ruthven and will take possession with a few helpers. He and Mrs. Larson move to Ruthven this week to make their future home. The Times wishes him success in his new venture.
Miss Nan Mitchell returns home from Sioux City Sunday to spend the summer with her parents. She will teach in Seattle during the coming year. Her sister Miss Ruth has taught in Seattle schools the past year and plans a summer visit to the West.
A plan halting one third of Chicago to Pacific coast passenger trains will save 12 million dollars annually and remove 11.7 million train miles. The action stems from dunes related issues and aims to reduce haul distances and costs.
War Industries Board fixes 1918 wool clip prices, based on July 30 1917 valuations. government holds prior rights to acquire needed wool at these prices, with remaining supply allocated for civilian use. Growers may pool clips in minimum 16 000 pound carloads and ship as one account to approved dealers, bypassing middlemen for government grading and DCs.
