Child Threatens Life With Corrosive Substance In Barn Accident
A five year old in Lake Park attempted a harmful stunt by ingesting corrosive sublimate and alcohol after climbing a barrel in a barn. He gave the contents to two younger children and rubbed some on a girl’s back. The mother summoned a doctor who saved their lives, though they will suffer mouth burns and back injuries for a time. Also at the factory, Johny Reasoner, son of James Reasoner, was severely cut and bruised after being caught in a belt wheel of an air compressor. He was unconscious, then dressed by a doctor, and is progressing satisfactorily. The Dows Advocate notes these accidents and the community sympathy.

Scholarships for Highland Park students urged by county official
Highland Park College in Des Moines offers two county scholarships valued at sixty and one hundred seventeen dollars yearly. Miss Lil Patton, county superintendent, will appoint the Normal department recipient, and a Liberal Arts graduate from an accredited county high school is eligible. Patton also holds a Gourne ll college scholarship. Aimed at aiding a deserving youth toward a collegiate education, the appeals stress personal effort and education as key to success. Four prisoners are jailed in Worthington for the Tipp & Son robbery at Round Lake on June 28. Suspects are Barney Smith alias Casey, John Dopli, Peter Ringler, Albert Shelvin, and Thomas McCarty. Stolen goods were found at Ringler’s home, with Ringler once living at Stony Lake, Dickinson county, Iowa, nicknamed Onion Peta.
