World at Our Feet and Farther Afield Column

A collage of notes blends weather, politics, and whimsy from a coastal columnist. The writer laments rising taxes for 1962 and recalls Tom Jefferson’s fear of public debt while joking about Parliament’s absenteeism. He cites a quirky nursery nugget, a vanished University professor, and modern gadgets seen as potential public dangers. The column shifts to nautical imagery, a storm, and dockside misadventures before highlighting science funding travels to South America and tourism at Mount Rushmore. It closes with local sports results and a national Farmers Organization meeting in Mason City, listing attendees and contract topics.
