Brakes failed, two cars could not pass on a detour, Carlson steered onto planks by the river while aid from obstruction halted the vehicle. upon descent, Carlson's wife leaped to safety and suffered skull fracture and multiple rib injuries. Hospital reports offered little detail on recovery prospects.

July Fourth Auto Collisions Near Ruthven Cause Minor Injuries
A Buick and a Ford collided near Ruthven during July celebrations. One driver suffered a severe tongue injury and a car was badly wrecked. The crash likely occurred at or near a railroad crossing.
