Where They Get Them And How They Do It
In Spirit Lake last fall, seven to eight thousand frogs crated for eastern markets were seized by three or four men in a weekly harvest. Frogs shelter in many ponds, then a cheesecloth barrier and buried boxes trap them at dusk. Frogs enter via the barrier and fall into half barrels or boxes, becoming trapped until the pond is cleared. Webb Record notes the method and counts of the haul. L is better to stay at home all summer than to race the family motor car to a railroad crossing once too often.
