A M Smith a well known pioneer of Palo Alto County died at his son Ralphs Ruthven home after a two week illness on January 8. Funeral services were held January 10 at the Free Methodist church in Ruthven with burial in Crown Hill cemetery. Born November 30 1882 in England he farmed in La Lauv teland township before moving near Ruthven. Surviving are four sons Seth Ralph James Grant and four daughters with extensive family and two sisters. He belonged to the Free Methodist church since 1890 and was respected for integrity and quiet conduct.
