A coastal guide describes the offshore California Channel Islands from San Miguel to San Nicolas, noting Cabrillo’s buried marker on San Miguel, Santa Rosa’s private ranch, Santa Cruz’s 1850 Maria Ester prisoners raft tale, Anacapa’s unmanned lighthouse, and abundant sportfishing near kelp beds. The piece highlights geology, wildlife, and the era’s human encounters while stressing limits on catching fish and the islands’ rugged beauty.
