Grace Keator Carlson, aged 95, died December 28 in Spirit Lake Iowa after living in Guthrie and Graettinger. She was born June 19 1880 in Dallas County Iowa, married twice, to George Smurdevant and John Carlson, and is survived by sons Earl Sturdevant and Guy Sturdevant, daughter Esther Stratton, three grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers included Russell Lastine Ted Leduc Gene Leonard Lorin Luchsinger Elmer Masters and Forrest Peterson.
Mrs. Richardson, born March 19 1889 Auburn, died recently and will be buried at St Jacob’s Cemetery Graettinger after a 10 a.m. service at Immaculate Conception Church Graettinger officiated by Father Vincent Bea. Rosary tonight at Fuhrman Funeral Home with visitation until service time. Survived by daughter Vera Leonard, Graettinger. preceded by husband Charles Richardson, parents, three brothers and four sisters. The note adds a medieval saint St Bernard coined the phrase love me love my dog.
Evan Bayh son of Indiana Senator Birch Bayh campaigned in Graettinger Iowa in support of his father’s bid for the Democratic presidential nomination. He spent time with Times staff and locals in the Sixth District planning caucus strategies ahead of the January 19 Iowa caucuses.

Dinner Date will continue to operate each Tuesday Thursday and Friday in the Happy Hour Meeting Room. Entry is via the marked door. To attend, guests must be at least sixty or married to someone over sixty. Guests pay full price. A musical performance by Wayne Smith is planned for Friday January 9 after the meal.

Children under nine should have the equivalent of two to three eight ounce glasses of milk daily. Teenagers require four or more glasses daily to meet dietary needs.
Ice fishing in northern Iowa lakes has been productive with perch limits at West Okoboji and good walleye action at Spirit Lake and West Okoboji. Spirit perch fair. Clear Lake walleyes good with fair perch. Bluegill and crappie strong in Mississippi backwaters near Pools 9 and 10, Norwegian Slough, and Methodist Slough. Southern Iowa reports slow ice fishing due to uncertain ice and low pressure. Authorities urge caution on ice.
Estate Planning Here presents where there's a will a video series in Graettinger January 8 13 and 15 with Dr Neil Hart ISU economics professor and Iowa Bar member. He covers death without a will saving tax money with a will and estate planning. A booklet titled Where There's a Will will be provided. Sessions run 7 to 9 pm at Happy Hour Cafe using twelve 15 minute tapes four per meeting with a Palo Alto County attorney answering questions after each. Thirty four Graettinger Snow-Twisters Snowmobile Club members plan a five day outing January 26 at Yellow Lake Lodge Webster Wisconsin. Adults only will attend with lakes and trails ideal for snowmobiling. Several couples and individuals named. A second trip to Park Rapids Minnesota for Snow Gold Tournament is tentatively planned with last year's four trophies noted.
