Debating Teams Meet For Honor In Euimination Contest

Sioux Rapids and Graettinger debate Friday evening at Graettinger High School. Topic: Resolved that Congress should enact legislation providing for military training of all able bodied men before age 24. Death of Mr Jertson's father shocks Hazel Run family

My and Mrs John O Jertson were called to Hazel Run Minnesota Friday evening by a telegram announcing the sudden death of Mr Jertson's father who passed away at his home Wednesday. The telegram came while Mr Jertson was at Town City attending bankers' short course and he was unable to teach Craéttingar until Friday. The deceased had been ill but a couple of days and his death came as a distinct shock to the family. He was no man of 65 years for age. The funeral was held at Hazel Run Monday. Mr Jertson has the sincere sympathy of the community in his sorrow.

Short course for bankers boosts Iowa tax problems training

John Q. Jetson returned from Iowa City where the University of Iowa extension division and the Iowa Bankers' association directed a short course on income tax problems. A large turnout from northwest Iowa attended. Registration totaled 602 for bankers and others from every county in the state. A second school is planned for October or November focusing on income tax issues and other banker concerns.

Methodist Episcopal Church invites all to services

Regular services are held next Sunday with the morning sermon the second in the Christian Fundamentals series. At the close of the sermon several persons will be received into church membership. A welcome invitation goes to those without a church home to unite with us. The evening sermon theme is Look Up, Lift Up, aimed especially at young people but helpful to all.

J A E Cunningham and Mrs Lea Kerr with family will move to Wilson Wisconsin this week. Kerr sold his place last fall and will be missed by neighbors for their business and social involvement. Graettinger Wins Rough Contest at West Bend

Graettinger boys defeated West Bend 20 to 13 in a rough Friday game. Referee, a West Bend former player, drew criticism as tripping and fouls went uncalled. Upcoming fixtures include Ruthven at Graettinger and a Ruthven-Graettinger clash for county bragging rights.

Theodore J Suss Weds Mae Boyle in Gracetinger Ceremony

Theodore J Suss and Mae Boyle of Gracetinger were married on Thursday January 1 at the Catholic parsonage with Father Kelly officiating. The couple will reside in Silvis Illinois where the groom holds a position. Mae is a Gracetinger High School graduate and former teacher. Theodore is the son of J A Suss and a respected local youth who served in the war. The Times offers congratulations and notes three dances planned for the coming week to celebrate.

Palo Alto couple wed in Lost Island tribute

Carl Tonderum of Humboldt and Miss Helena Chrestiansen daughter of Mrs Andrew Chrestiansen Lost Island township were married at the bride's mother's home Wednesday morning January 14. Rev Q O Sanda officiated. After a wedding trip they plan to reside near Ottosen after March. The Times extends greetings and wishes them a long happy life.
