Edward Mitchell Injured in Christmas Day Rifle Accident

Edward Mitchell son of Mr and Mrs E J Mitchell of this place injured his foot while using a 22 rifle on Christmas Day. He was taken to Estherville hospital where X rays showed a lead fragment in the bone. The injury is described as painful but the youth is recovering. the weapon was a Christmas gift and he was shooting targets outside when the gun discharged inside.

Graettinger Debaters to Oppose Price Controls in Estherville

Graettinger High School will debate with Y High at Estherville Friday evening, January 10, arguing against government price controls on life’s necessities. Team members are Mable Anderson, Stella Birkland, and Minnie Henningsen. The event marks Graettinger as the sole Pialo Alto county entrant in the Iowa Debating League.

Merrimans Visit Graettinger from Redfield South Dakota

Mr and Mrs E B Merriman and children of Redfield SD arrived Friday for a brief visit with local friends. They traveled to Emmetsburg Sunday and planned to return Tuesday. Merriman conducts business in Redfield and is publishing a new eight page paper with a large job trade. They stayed with Mrs J H Gammon and spoke highly of Redfield as a busy county seat with progressive firms.

Government auction at Camp Grant horses and mules sale

The United States government holds a public auction at Camp Grant Rockford Illinois starting January 7 1919 and continuing until all animals are sold. About 625 head of horses and mules will be offered for sale as they have not seen service and have been kept at the camp since purchase. Buy a horse or mule and give it to a discharged soldier.

Christmas Happiness Reported By Local Johnson

Johnson says he had the happiest Christmas of all as new recitation seats arrive in room 3 and two twelve dollar basketballs are provided for teams. School service flag honors forty eight service members with forty six blue stars two gold crosses and four red crosses. Ray Lambe and Jahard Axelton noted on gold stars for actions in war and illness.
