Ben F. Reeves suffered a deep abdominal wound after a cow gored him while he tried to stop a loose horse in his yard. He was taken to Estherville's hospital, progressing as well as can be expected if no complications arise. The incident occurred in his home yard and the horn caused a three and a half inch wound.
J A Fleming and son Floyd have leased the City Seed Shed and will take possession March 1. They will operate an auto and team livery and a large feed shed and plan to be open day and night. Floyd, recently mustered out of service, was stationed at Camp Cody. They are accommodating and expect a large patronage.
Armstrong defeated the fast debating team of Ponda in a two to one decision. Armstrong held the affirmative side. The next debate is scheduled with Ireton on March 7.
Graettinger High School prepares for Spirit Lake tournament with local business support. March 6 and 7 practices ahead as Graettinger seeks trophy. Friday game at Graettinger gym against West Bend ends 81 to 12 after a slow first half. referee John Higley noted small floor and unfamiliar rules affected West Bend. Despite the lopsided score, Graettinger underperformed relative to earlier wins and West Bend’s fans send a 50-strong delegation home on the midnight freight.
The M E church and Sunday school begin demobilization of their service flag next Sunday evening March 2 at the church. A good program of songs addresses and flag salutes will be rendered with many congregational songs. Relatives of soldiers and sailors are especially invited and urged to attend.
Miss Etta Bigley daughter of Mr and Mrs Joseph Bigley now in Jerusalem after nursing duty in Paris and Rome describes her travels. Graettinger High meets Lake Park High Friday at Lake Park following a previous Graettinger victory by a decisive score.
Fifty residents gathered Sunday evening at Grachtinger to support the West Bend basketball team. The crowd praised the town’s spirit and congratulated the West Benders on backing their boys.
Martin Myhre will dispose of his Model 87 Qverlind at the Market Day sale in Graettinger on March 8. The ad was overlooked in this issue but the car is in good shape and should attract ready bidders.
The Graettinger Bachelors will hold a public dance at Woodman hall Friday evening February 28 with tickets at 1.00. The event promises a good time for all attendees. Mingtral show at Hawes theatre featured Uncle Sammy Mingtral troupes as the attraction.
KXC initiated a class of 42 at Emmetsburg on Sunday with first and second degrees by Milford and third degree by Mason Cuy team. Despite bad roads attendance was strong. A banquet followed by music and talks by James W. Fay Father Murphy John A. Holland and Rev Norman McCay. McCay spoke on America the Worlds Hope. Among the new members from Graettinger were E J Bradley P A Lambe and E F and W H Nock.
Eimmet and Leo Kennedy traveled from Hardwick Minnesota to Emmetsburg for KC initiation and the Knights of Columbus social. Reports say southwestern Minnesota faces trouble with the non-partisan league with stern measures to uphold law. Rock county anticipates many damages up to a hundred thousand dollars this year as the league, backed by capital, seeks control of Minnesota government as it did in North Dakota.
A big dance scheduled for Tuesday evening March 4 will be held at Woodman hall with excellent music. Dancing starts early and ends at midnight, marking the last Woodman hall dance before the Lenten season.
Art Thompson suffered a broken right wrist and a deep bruise when his Ford allegedly became unruly and kicked him. He discarded the cast after rapid bone knitting, noting Fords are sometimes treacherous and injuries occur in this manner.
The $150000 children s hospital will open soon at Iowa University, home to cripples until full recovery. Dr Arthur Steindler reports 322 operations, 2227 casts, 1500 outpatients since Perkins law. The unit houses 100 patients, with cottages for nurses and expanded nurse training.
