To Night at Twelve big feature at Hawkeye Theatre

Fister Is Dead Rites Held Sunday
Ole Fister, aged 87, died at his daughter Mra Margaret Nefstead’s home near Gruettinger Feb 13. In poor health for years, funeral services were conducted at the residence and at First Scandinavian Lutheran church. Interment followed at Evergreen cemetery in Emmetsburg. Grandsons Lawrence and others served as pallbearers.

School Pupils Get Two Days Vacation At Ruthven
The school pupils and teachers will have two days vacation today and tomorrow with return to classes Monday unless notified. Two light scarlet fever cases were quarantined this week, the first and only cases in Grasttinger. Charley Jensen traveled to Minneapolis in his private car from Estherville to Albert Lea, paying only regular fare yet enjoying privacy. Mr and Mrs C W Goff of Ruthven celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on February 5, having lived in the Ruthven area their whole married life.

Graettinger high school girls basketball team, newly formed, filled in for West Bend and played in the county tournament at Mallard. They beat Ayrshire 27 to 25, then lost to Ruthven 41 to 16 and Curlew 28 to 21 in consolation. Mallard captured the county title with 41 16 defeats of Ruthven and Curlew.

The sub county contest at the high school assembly Monday drew entries from West Bend Emmetsburg Cylinder Rodman and other towns. Eugene Premissing of West Bend won first in oratory with Ross Ballou of Emmetsburg second. Alvin Maberry of West Bend won first in dramatic with Verna Grodland of Graettinger second. David Allen of Emmetsburg won first in humorous with Lillie Jacobsen of Graettinger second. Attendance was light but the event drew lively interest.

Palmer Frettem Wins Gold Medal At Ames Short Course
Palmer Frettem, Graettinger buttermaker, won the gold medal at the National Searing contest held with the Ames Short course February 10 to 16. His score 95 topped P. H. Yonkers 94.76 and Phil Lasson 04.50. Butter entries came from Minnesota to Iowa with judges noting Frettem’s top performance and praising a large attendance at the event.
