Emmetsburg Declares County Basketball Champions

Emmetsburg High School captured Palo Alto county basketball championship by defeating West Bend 85 to 17 in the final. Graettinger previously beat Ayrshire 48 to 15 in a Friday game and fell short in the semifinal against Emmetsburg.

Supper at Johnson Home Thursday Menu Announced

The W H M S will hold a 26 cent supper at the home of Mrs A J Johnson on Thursday February 23. The menu includes chicken pie mashed potatoes buttered peas cranberry salad coffee and white nut cake. Public patronage is welcome and appreciated.

Paulsen Couple Marks Golden Anniversary in Community Home

Mr and Mrs L L Paulsen celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the home of Mr and Mrs Charley Sensen with about a hundred attendees. The St Pauls Lutheran church sponsored the event and Rev James P Christensen delivered a praised address. Lupeh refreshments followed as friends shared memories and best wishes. The couple married February 14 1888 near Hamilton County Indiana, later moving to Ruthven then Graettinger where they still own a farm. Their daughter Mrs Charley Jensen lives in Graettinger with grandchildren Irene Weat ergard Pearl Jensen and Lawrence Jensen. The Paulsens are in robust health and admired as a young looking golden wedding pair. The Times extends further wishes for continued health and happiness toward a possible diamond jubilee.

Gladys Elsenbast of Graettinger placed second in dramatic and Kenneth Swift of Graettinger placed second in humorous at Emmetaburg last evening. James Brown of Ruthven won first in oratorical, Betty Theile of Emmetsburg second. With Bauck of Emmetsburg won first in dramatic, Glenn Jolson of Emmetsburg first in humorous, and Swift’s result not fully reported. Congratulations to all winners.

Moraine and Sullivan Named to All-County Teams

Funeral Of Mrs Henry Hauge Held Thursday

Obituary notice for Mrs Henry Hauge who died February 6 1988 at age 61 in Lost Island Township near Graettinger Iowa. She moved from Norway to America in 1891, married Henry Hauge in 1899, lived in Graettinger area since 1902, and was a devout Lutheran and devoted wife and mother. L P C Larsen Dies in California after cancer battle

Word reached Graettinger of the death of L P C Larsen in Los Angeles California on February 7. He had lived in Graettinger previously and was a longtime meat market operator and former marshal. Survived by son Dr Chris Larsen Albert Lea MN son Robert Los Angeles and daughter Guyida married at Waterloo. Funeral held in Los Angeles with many old friends mourning.

Two Local Girls Secure All County First Team

Bernard Nolan of Ruthven selected the all county girls basketball teams for the Emmetsburg Democrat. Graettinger is represented by Jones and Berninghaus on the first team with Habeger of West Bend at guard and Grodland of Graettinger at center. Seagren Ruthven and Johnston Curlew are on the second team with Olson Ayrshire and Watson West Bend at center or guard. Nolan notes the strong mix of scoring speed and defense across the counties.

Tragic Car Fire Claims Clifford Curry at 19

Clifford Curry, 19, of Graettinger later Emmet County, died after his Ford stalled in snow near Grover Saturday night. He was found seated inside with the car ablaze. investigators suspect carbon monoxide caused loss of consciousness before the fire. Survived by his parents and six brothers and two sisters. Funeral held Wednesday in Estherville and Graettinger.
