Fenton farmer Alex Waite, a prominent local figure, died Sunday in a railroad derailment near Dunlap Iowa while riding in the caboose on a stock train bound for Omaha. A defective air rake caused a double header to strike, killing Waite and three other passengers and injuring several trainmen as cars were smashed and traffic halted for hours. Waite was highly respected in the Fenton neighborhood.
Revival meetings at the M. E. church grow in power and attendance. Sermons on Zaccheus and the second coming of Christ draw praise. a Tuesday talk urges men to show themselves. By now twenty seven souls have sought Christ or deeper spiritual life, with more to follow.
City councilors study whether Graettinger should generate electricity locally or build a transmission line to a nearby town. An electrician assessed feasible plans as gas lighting deteriorates rapidly. Voters may decide later. many citizens favor electric lighting for better illumination and power in businesses.
Mrs Thomas Mc Donald learned that her aged father John Griffin died the prior evening. He was over 90 and had been failing for some time. The funeral was held at Mallard on Saturday with interment there. Mrs Griffin is very low. Mrs McDonald had spent much of the winter at Curlew caring for her parents. Citizens express sympathy.
A hand written note from ventriloquist Ralph Bingham requests arrival details for Feb 12 at 5 17 p m from Pipestone R I R BR. He jokes about travel gear and asks for a neutral in tune piano, warm dressing rooms, and prime hotel space for his act and wife.
At Fort Dodge Iowa February 4 democrats from the tenth district endorsed President Wilson's preparedness plan and the Wilson administration. A unanimous vote approved the resolutions praising his middle west trip and urging wholehearted support. Eighty two leaders attended. Branagan presided and Bragan and Buttner named district delegates to the national convention.
The Iowa department explains the butter trademark aims to raise quality and value by enforcing strict rules. Creameries must meet Iowa sanitary law with a score of 85 or higher and obtain at least 938 quality points on 75 percent or more of the scoring, containing no less than 80 percent butter fat and not less than 16 percent moisture with no preservatives neutralizers or adulterants added.

Victor James Horswell of Armstrong died Tuesday night from injuries after a baby colt sparked a kick by another horse. He was working in the yard at his farm when struck near the heart, suffering three broken ribs and a hoof shaped bruise. Dr. Knipe attended, but he died at 6:30 that evening.
Cornell College introduces a new course titled College Agriculture taught by Elmo H. Lott to provide non technical but scientific knowledge of fundamentals. The program aims to bridge mental and manual pursuits, linking soils crops and conservation to modern industry in a liberal education context.
Theo Dirkx of Cook township closed a deal last week to own Anton Coon's 240 acre farm in Sac township. The sale price was 215 dollars per acre, totaling a substantial sum. Mrs Dirkx and her large family will manage the farm, which the family has been expanding to 400 acres with local help. The Dirks moved here about four years ago from Graettinger and are well regarded among friends and neighbors.
