Otto Spies was in an auto accident north of Emmetsburg High School last Friday evening when another car, reportedly driven by individuals who had been drinking, struck his vehicle from a side street. The left side of Spies’ car was badly damaged and the other two occupants were taken into custody by authorities. Spies was accompanied by Mrs. Spies, Miss Edna Oliver, and the Misses Olga and Kathleen Borg.

Thomas Dunigan Dies After Stroke in Emmetsburg Hospital
Thomas Dunigan of Graettinger died Monday morning after a stroke. He had been hospitalized for weeks, improved briefly, then relapsed. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church with interment in the parochial cemetery. He was about 70, married, and a brother of Mrs. Patrick Bannon. Primary 17 To Be Paved This Spring
Chris Larson a Wallingford merchant and Emmet county Democrat tells Estherville Daily News highway 17 between Wallingford and the Palo Alto county line will be paved this spring after a talk with O J Ditto, chairman of the state highway commission. Ditto promised the five and one half mile strip would be paved as soon as weather permits. The contract will be let in under two months. The highway will be relocated to avoid hills and curves and will largely follow the Rock Island right of way.

Double Hanging Set For April Fifth In Des Moines Case
Governor Herring refused to commute the death sentence of Elmer Brewer and Pat Griffin and fixed Friday, April 5, 1935, at 7:16 a.m. for the double hanging. Brewer is to ascend the scaffold at 7:16 and Griffin at 7:30. Attorney James W. Fay of Emmetsburg will again seek commutation. Father Leo McEvoy of Ruthven, Griffin’s boyhood classmate, will be with him in his last hour, having previously visited Ft Madison.
