The annus Burns celebration in Emmetsburg Monday evening drew a large audience of Scots and citizens. Jessie Maclachlan delivered a rare voice, Jack McGuekis from St Paul sang humorous Scots ballads, Sinelsir boy dancers with a bagpiper impressed, Dr J. MacLeod of Armstrong chaired and spoke brief tribute to Burns. About twenty five locals attended.

Two Wallace brothers held in horse theft case

Sheriff Cullen has Avery and Lee Wallace in custody on a horse theft charge. The 19 January theft from Andrew Dreesch led to Everet Wallace taking the horse to Fort Dodge, where he was later shot by the sheriff during an escape attempt. His brothers were arrested in Kansas and released after his death hindered evidence collection. the Wallace family once lived in West Bend.

Funeral Held For Mrs Boyle In Local Catholic Church

Mrs Mary Boyle nee Sherlock died Saturday night after a long illness of dropsy. Funeral conducted Monday at the Catholic Church by Rev Kelly, burial in parish cemetery beside her brother Timothy. Survived by husband James P Boyle daughter, parents Mr and Mrs Pat Sherlock, and several siblings.

Bank of Luverne Burglarized. Loot Includes Stamps

Burglars broke into the Bank of Luverne Wednesday night last week and stole about 250 in cash and 500 in stamps from the Luverne post office vault. They pried open a vault door but failed to access the safe. Three men seen nearby recently are not yet identified. The bank owner is recovering from a buggy accident.
