Funeral Of C. F. Leonard Was Held Friday

The funeral for Carnelius Francis Leonard of Graettinger was held Friday after a sudden illness in December. Services were at the Catholic church with Rev Father Kelly officiating. He was born January 8 1881 in County Cork Ireland and died aged about 50. He lived in Palo Alto county farming, was married to Hannah Murphy June 11 1901 and had four surviving children Jerry Joe Eugene Leona with Bernadine having died in 1921. He was a devout Catholic and active neighbor and family provider, leaving a widow and several siblings. The Times extends sincere sympathy to Mrs Leonard and family. Barber shops open two evenings this week.

Midnight Mass at Catholic Church Thursday

A midnight mass will be celebrated at the Catholic church on Christmas Eve December 24th at twelve. The service is the traditional high mass and has drawn large crowds in past years. Additional masses are set for eight and nine o'clock on Christmas Day with confessions Thursday afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m. and evenings from 7 to 10 p.m.

Graettinger high school girls battled Dolliver to a 15 to 15 tie in Dolliver on Thursday evening. The Craettinger boys fell 27 to 18 as Dolliver led 18 to 8 at halftime. Just Married Stranded at Sioux City

A 16 year old husband and his brunette wife, recently married in Sioux Falls, arrived in Sioux City seeking work. They are lodging at the Salvation Army and Municipal building quarters, with Parker South Dakota and Spencer Iowa as their home towns. The Sioux City Travelers Aid Society is seeking employment and housing for the couple while contacting the girl's parents and the boy's mother in California.

A Des Moines Register report notes Emmetsburg poor farm had 42 inmates in November and 30 in December as the superintendent bought 100 trees to enrich the property. Resigns as Emmetsburg pastor Reverend Mur tagh resigns

Reverend J G Murtagh, pastor of Assumption Parish in Emmetsburg, has tendered his resignation. His successor will not be named for months due to an required examination before appointment. Murtagh has served Emmetsburg for years and, due to health, will depart with much goodwill from Gradlinger friends.
