Capt T J Hession son of Dr and Mrs P J Hession of this city has been promoted to run the Sioux City office of Western Adjustment Co effective January 1. He will move from St Louis next week after years in St Louis and prior postings at Davenport and Des Moines. Previously a Rock Island claim agent he is slated to lead a large team of adjusters in the key Sioux City office. Returns To Ireland For The Winter W Andersen begins a two trip to Ireland Wednesday night planning to stay through winter. He is brother of Hugh Andersen of northeast town and natives of Ireland who settled here years ago. Local friends wish him a safe journey.

Infant Vincent Edmund Milly Dies in Sioux City

The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Milly of Sioux City died Sunday after being born December 15. Funeral services were held Monday. The Milly family receives sympathy from relatives and friends. Also noted is Orville Smith resigning from C A Jensen's store and being replaced by Benoit Osher, with uncertainty about Mr. Osher's full role and future plans.

Funeral for Halvor Rierson Held in Lost Island Church

The funeral for Halvor Rierson was held Friday at Lost Island Lutheran church with Rev M Mundenger officiating. Born April 4 1885 in Lost Island township, he spent most of his life there, never marrying, and endured years of rheumatism and a stroke before passing away at his brother Lars home. He was known as a good worker and faithful neighbor with a long family listing present at the service.

Runaway Run Toward Alley Ends With Pole Crash

A runaway runabout pulled by a team of mules crashed into a light pole in the alley west of Grain Co near Robbing Avenue Friday afternoon. The front of the box was badly damaged while a runner was uninjured. Traffic usually heavy on the street was light at the time.

Tax Sale In Clay County Auctions 114 Properties

In Clay County, one hundred fourteen parcels of real estate were sold for taxes, totaling $886.20, at the county treasurer’s office this Monday. Sixteen parcels with delinquent taxes adding up to $1,014 were sold for lack of bids. The annual tax sale rally drew buyers and observers amid a year ago’s higher turnout.

V S OConnor received a Kingsman Arizona hospital telegram Sunday indicating his brother was seriously ill. A later telegram said OConnor was very low with pneumonia and another stated he died Monday night. The family, including Phil in Nevada and Michael in California, awaits details as V S OConnor travels to Kingsman. He has lived in Nevada for years, working in mining.

Relic 912 Years Old Arrives At Milford Museum

Last Wednesday W. G. Adkins received an old monastery lock dating to 1014 from Flamstead near Markyate England along the old Romar Road. The beechwood body measures 6 by 30 inches with brass workings. Adkins owns other monastery pieces from Europe gained about two years ago. The relic was sent by W. A. Harris of Everhot Woburn.

Graettinger Beats Ayrshire 10 to 9 On Local Floor

Graettinger High School defeated Ayrshire on Friday night by a 10 to 9 score. Craven starred for Graettinger, driving the victory as Ayrshire’s floorwork and fumbl es hurt their chances. Ayrshire fielded a strong team but costly turnovers doomed them. The week’s weather saw a cold snap ending with milder days and fluctuating temperatures through Friday.

A fire discovered Friday at Rev Andersen's home near the Danish Lutheran church in South Walnut Township was extinguished swiftly by neighbors L Montgomery and Forest Sipes who arrived after the call. Girl Swallowed Radium Capsule by Mistake

Miss Ruth Ballah an 18 year old Terris resident swallowed a tube of radium while taking medicine for lung trouble. She underwent surgery to recover the radium valued at 3000 dollars and is now a patient at University hospital Iowa City. The report notes the capsule ingestion occurred last week during routine treatment.

Fire destroys McNew corn crib and car near Graettinger

A Monday evening blaze at the Earl McNew farm south of Graettinger destroyed a 24 by 24 by 10 corn crib and a Chevrolet sedan. About 1,500 bushels of corn and 22 bushels of seed corn were lost along with the car. Insurance covered the buildings, but the corn and most of the other personal items were uninsured. Neighbors and Albert Muesenburger aided in saving animals and limiting the fire as McNew battled the flames atop the barn roof.

Grace Murphy Becomes $16000 Verdict Last Week

Grace Murphy, a former resident of Graetlinger, won a district court verdict for $10,000 in Guthrie County. She sued for $25,000 for her husband James Murphy’s death by electrocution during work with a construction firm.
