J. W. Oakes Dies After Long Illness at 62

J W Oakes of Jack Creek township Emmet County Iowa died suddenly Sunday evening at eight after heart troubles. He was born March 22 1867 in Indiana and married Wda Kent March 6 1891 at Pocahontas. He served as director of Farmers Savings Bank Ringsted and secretary of Jack Creek school board for twenty years. Funeral Wednesday at home conducted by Rev Gladstone with Ringsted male quartet. burial in High Lake Cemetery. Survived by wife and two children Joe Jr and Mrs A J Davin.

School To Close Friday For Two Weeks

Gruetteringer schools staged a splendid program at Hawkeye Theatre despite a severe storm and large attendance. The two hundred plus students performed in each room, highlighting four months of progress under Supt Stevenson and staff. Classes will close Friday for holiday vacation, reopening January 5, with teachers visiting homes nationwide.

Mallard Dominates Graettinger In Basketball Clash

Mallard first and second teams defeated Graettinger teams last evening with scores of 26 to 16 and 16 to 11. County Red Cross meeting announced for December 20 at 2:15 p.m. in the sixth grade room of the Congregational church in Emfastburg with officer elections and roll call. Antone Johnson Receives Major Insurance Promotion

Antone Johnson of that place is promoted by Equitable Life Insurance Co to supervise the Council Bluffs district. He will manage business in the city and fourteen surrounding counties. Johnson, formerly superintendent of the Gruettinger schools, is well regarded here and will relocate with his wife and daughter after the holidays.

Non-resident fined for 128 pheasants in Cresco Iowa

Humboldt Republican reports a North Dakota man was fined 3200 dollars in Cresco Iowa for possessing 128 pheasants. He had them prepared and canned into 800 quart jars. Officials stopped him due to unusual luggage on his car. He left behind the birds, his gun, and a 3200 dollar check.

Aged Man Killed by Freight Train at Livermore

William Wilson aged 82 died after being struck by an M and St. L freight train while crossing the tracks at Livermore with a wheel barrow. He was killed instantly. Survived by a son Archia Wilson of Livermore and two daughters Mrs Evelyn Paisley and Mrs Nita Lowry of Omaha.

Frank Carney's Mother Died In California

Mrs. Carney Sr died in Oakland California Sunday afternoon after several weeks illness. Frank Carney of the locality was with her at the end. Burial will be in Morris Illinois, with funeral likely Sunday morning. Mrs Carney is sister of Mrs P Montgomery and Mrs Dinan. Mrs PL Carney will attend from Morris Friday evening. The Renwick and Wesley High School teams played a mistaken game by phone location ending up at Renwick late. Graettinger displays for Christmas attract shoppers. Auto Ditch Crash Near Crippen Corner Sunday Afternoon
