Evans postpones a large livestock sale to Monday December 19 due to cold weather and drifting snow. A large listing shows 483 head of livestock including 200 steers and heifers. The new sale begins early and full details appear in this week's Times advertisement.
The M E Ladies Aid society invites all to a bazaar and supper in the Hawk Eye Theatre basement on Saturday December 17. Lunch will be served in the afternoon and a hearty meal at six o clock. Numerous useful items will be offered for sale in the bazaar during the afternoon.
A humorous observation contrasts lives: one man saves for a home while another sells for less than cost. One spends on dates while another funds a divorce. Another escapes diseases yet dies in an accident, while another dies after a light scare. Truly a strange world.
Next Saturday afternoon December 17 Mrs. R Nelson will dispense of her household goods at auction at her Graettinger residence in the east part. Sale starts at 1 30. Mrs Nelson plans to live with her daughter Mrs Levi Olson and family. A complete property list appears in this issue. A supper by the M E Ladies at the Hawkeye theatre Saturday along with a bazaar and lunch in the afternoon.

Old Memory night was well received last Sunday evening and another is planned. Sunday services include SS at 10, morning worship at 11, Epworth League at 6 45, and evening services at 7 80. Lutheran notes show First Lutheran Church confirmation at 10 80 with classes at 9 80 and a 2 pm Saturday at the parsonage. Sunday School rehearses the Christmas program Sunday at 2 80, with offerings for next Sunday. Christmas Eve program at 2 pm. Bible study and prayer Thursday. a Christmas themed service quoted from 1 Timothy 1 6 and Matthew 1.
A Riverside Stove Co representative reported Charley Jensen of Jensen Hardware Co in Graettinger ranked second in gross sales in western Iowa. The territory covers Sioux Falls and Mitchell areas including South Dakota border towns. The Times notes this as proof that salesmanship, advertising, quality, price, and service drive results.

Miss Florence Miller hosted a shower at her parents home Tuesday evening for newlyweds Mr and Mrs Owen Truesdell with many young folks in attendance and gifts.
The State Highway Commission authorizes paving of the federal road from Emmetsburg to Algona. The contract for the Emmetsburg to Kossuth county line stretch will be let within sixty days.
George Sprick plans a public sale Tuesday December 20 at his residence one mile east and two miles south of Ruthven. The auction includes 38 Volstein cattle 4 horses 59 Poland China hogs and various machinery. Free lunch begins at 11 o'clock.
A. N. Jensen sold his eighty acre farm west of Graettinger to Will Nelson a few days ago for 128 dollars an acre. The new occupant is Henry Wobbe.
Mr. and Mrs. Peter Miller marked their silver wedding anniversary with a Sunday gathering of forty neighbors. A purse of silver was presented as a keepsake while guests from Lakefield Ruthven and Emmetsburg attended and the Times offered congratulations and best wishes. In other notes, bank receivers are urged to actively pursue uncollected notes to protect depositors after bank closures.
A Pioneer press report notes heavy snowfall left much corn in fields. Many farmers harvested parts, but sizable acreage remained. Local crop estimates indicate about 60 percent of the crop in the area was secured, with higher percentages expected.

The roster includes the trial jurors designated for this term and those serving as grand jurors for the year, reflecting the district’s jury selection for 1928.
Palo Alto county Farm Bureau will modify its Articles of Incorporation and By-Laws at the annual meeting on Wednesday December 21. The change follows a new state law affecting the organization and aims to convert the meeting into a business session with no outside speakers for ample round table discussion of local problems and business matters. All farmers and their wives in the county are invited.
A large herd of D. C. Barringer’s hogs broke loose Sunday morning, scattering through town and countryside. Barringer faced a long anxious chase with little time to pray as the animals roamed for hours before capture.
A flashy attraction titled An Affair Of The Follies will be shown at the Hawkeye theatre Saturday evening. The feature stars Lewis Stone Bile Dove and Lloyd Hughes in a First National picture and is described as well worth seeing.
The Vernon township regular Farm Bureau will be held in District No 4 Friday evening December 28. A good program is being prepared. The school is having a basket social the same evening. Everybody come. Ladies please bring baskets.
A very large audience attended the P T A program at the high school assembly Tuesday evening. The students presented their Christmas programs, showcasing the talents of the school children.
Virgil K. Webster Palo Alto county's new County Agent will attend the annual Farm Bureau meeting Wednesday afternoon December 21 in the Court House at Amersburg. Every farmer should attend to meet the new agent and help set the organization's policies amid changes to the Articles of Incorporation.

Huntington Park Baptist church prize orchestra, directed by Mrs. R. W. Pattingill, delighted KEG listeners with a varied program. They won first place in the Southern California festival contest in San Pedro and Los Angeles. Highlights included Lutspiel, Neapolitan Nights, La Paloma, and a Last Rose of Summer medley featuring Bruce Hurtt. The group comprises Huntington Park musicians led by concert master Hurtt, with Trinity Methodist Church of Los Angeles sponsoring the KEGT broadcast.
An Emmetsburg man, age about seventy, recalled his youth when Cummins ran for governor of Town. He accompanied his father to a political rally and was a noted lad. Another aged editor, Frank Day of the Fairmont Sentinel, claimed Shakespeare as a schoolmate, joking that Shakespeare had been dead for 100 years.
A blizzard was reported Tuesday with follow up cold days. Saturday brought damp weather and a strong wind. Monday and Tuesday afterward were pleasant with temperatures near freezing at night. The week ends with ideal winter conditions despite the prior storm.

A meeting at Estherville heard Emmet County bankers back a vigilante group to protect life and property. John A. Nelson of Wallingford led talks, details included organizing, arming, and coordinating with Sheriff Brown, aiming to deter bank robbers and reduce insurance risk.
A Legion dance will be held at Woodman hall next Monday evening with Luchter's orchestra of Milford providing music. Lunch will be served by the Auxiliary, and a cordial invitation is extended to all to attend.

Mr and Mrs Emil J Anderson of east of town mourn the death of their three months old son Donald Martin who passed away Saturday morning from intestinal flu after a three day illness. Funeral services were held at the home and he was interred in Story City. Born Sept 10 he was just three months old at death. He is survived by parents and a sister Zada. The Times extends sympathy.
After a week of blizzard and cold weather Jim Clausen hosted a closing out sale on Tuesday the 18th. The day drew a splendid crowd and a successful sale. Mr and Mrs Clausen plan to move to Graettinger and local residents extend a warm welcome, hoping they settle there permanently.
Fred Hepp of east of Osgood reports several pheasants frozen to death after last week’s blizzard. The hunting season was only three days long, limiting opportunities for hunters.

William C. Schrader of Broch Nebraska and Edna E. Duhn of Emmetsburg united in marriage at the Congregational church in Emmetsburg on Tuesday December 6 officiated by Rev. Kline. Harold Duhn served as best man and Leona Sloniker as bridesmaid. The bride wore blue Georgette with shadow lace. The couple will honeymoon with the groom’s parents in Broch. The Times extends congratulations.

Jens Jensen celebrated his 80th birthday with four of his eight living siblings present Nels Jensen of Wyndmere Christ Jensen of Ruthven Mrs Sorensen and Mrs Fred Simonsen of Graettinger. Relatives attended the five layer cake was made by Mrs Henry Jensen. Jensen oldest in the family since sister Mrs Christensen of Graettinger died last year. His youngest sister Mrs Simonsen is over 60. The family has witnessed Ruthven and area grow from wilderness to town with schools and churches.
Well prepared for Christmas greeting with complete stock and quality gift articles. A. H. Henningsen installed an ecard writing machine in Osher Department Store, using stencils and two ink colors to make neat attractive signs. He is an expert with the machine and finds it useful in his work.
