Spies Bank First To Cash Corn Loan Vouchers

The Iowa Trust and Savings Bank in Emmetsburg and Palo Alto county issued the first government corn loan checks in the two counties. George Downs of Emmetsburg received 1400 dollars and Eugene McCarty of Wallingford received 1900 dollars. H A Elsenbaat of Graettinger was hired to prepare corn loan applications for Palo Alto sealers as Emmet county proceeds continue. Farmers should act soon as loans are guaranteed at 45 cents per bushel with expectations of rising prices before August first.

Mrs Brekke Slowly Recovers From Fall Injury At Church Steps

Mrs Jacob Brekke remains hospitalized and unable to walk freely after a late October fall on the First Lutheran church steps. She is confined to a bed and then a wheelchair with the leg bruised and possibly weeks more to regain mobility. Relatives from Thor and Kennett Iowa and Sherburne and Lake Crystal Minnesota have visited as prayers rise for a full recovery.

Obituary: Lars Omundson Passes At 83 In Story City

Lars Omundson well known in the Story City area died last Saturday at his home in the north part of town after years of declining strength. He was a little over 83. Funeral services were held Monday with Rev. Searvie officiating. Interment was at Mamrelund cemetery. He was born July 6 1880 in Lanale county Iffodis near Ottawa. He moved to Iowa in 1870 at age 20 and settled on a farm north of Story City. He married Josephine Romstahl in 1873 and they had nine children, six survive him. He lived on farms near Story City, Gruet tinger, and then moved to Story City in later years. He is survived by six children, 31 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. The children listed include Lowia of Roland, Mrs Edward Santvig of Roland, Mrs Edward Anterson of Graet Unger, Joseph of Estherville, Nels and Mrs Anna Oluon of Story City.

Ben F Reeves Horse Sale Next Tuesday in Graettinger

Ben F Reeves of four miles east of Graettinger will host a sale of horses and mules Tuesday December 1 at one oclock. About 325 head of horses and mules are offered with emphasis on quality. A few cattle are listed as well though the sale centers on horses. The Iowa Trust Bank will clerk the sale with nine months time. Full particulars appear in the display ad on page three of this weeks Times.

CWA Activities Expanding Employment in Emmetsburg Area

Paulo Alto county added 168 CWA laborers in four days, bringing totals near sixty dollars. Women also found work as Graettinger High School cleaning began, with several projects planned by the Commercial club and county CWA board. Proposed work includes water system extensions, pipe relays for fire protection, street gravelling, storm sewers, and a tile drain. not yet approved, funding relies on city finances and agreements with Des Moines and Emmetsburg officials. The program promises broad relief, easing bills and boosting local purchasing power through February and possibly into April.

Earl Larson Auction Sale Next Monday

Earl M. Larson of Wallingtord Hill South will hold an auction next Monday December 18 starting at one o clock. He offers 10 head of cattle eight milch cows and stock, 21 head of hogs with six sows and fall pigs, vaccinated hogs, 10 tons of alfalfa hay 800 bushels of corn one stack of corn fodder. Greenland and Reaves will conduct the sale with Emmet County State Bank as clerk.

Graettinger high school teams split results with Ayrshire Friday night at the local gym. Ayrshire boys won 88 14 while Graettinger girls fell 19 14. Graettinger boys dominated Ayrshire 38 14 in the nightcap as Joe Grady 22 and Edward Sullivan 13 led scoring.

Andrew Nelson of west of town suffered a stroke of paralysis Wednesday night. One side is paralyzed and he talks with difficulty. He is recovering nicely and relatives hope for a quick recovery. Nelson is a young man with many friends in Grattan.

Two Craven and Barringer Accidents Injure Three

Oscar Craven and his daughter Agatha were hurt when their truck collided with a D C Batvinger truck amid a sleet storm near Craven and Masters. Agatha suffered deep facial wounds. Oscar craved chest injury. A service truck driver, Mr Rasmussen, and Mr Barringer were also injured as the truck rolled under stock and pushed the service vehicle downhill.

Hans Matsen Sustains Dual Arm Breaks From Fall

Hans Matsen of Lake Crystal Minnesota son in law of Mr and Mrs Jacob Brekke of Graettinger fell from a pile of corn fodder and suffered both arms broken just above the wrists. The high stack forced him to reach for a ladder when he slipped and landed downward with his arms outstretched to break the impact. He avoided a head injury by a narrow margin and Graettinger residents express regret at his misfortune.
