Mr and Mrs John Johnson of Lost Asland township mourn the death of their baby boy aged about two months who passed away yesterday after a three day illness of pneumonia. Funeral held this afternoon with interment at South Walnut Cemetery Rev James P Chistenson of Graettinger officiated.
A string of social notices lists the Catholic Ladies Aid Society meeting at Mrs. D. E. MacCarty’s home on December 16, and the PTA’s regular High School assembly with a Christmas program next Tuesday. Several birthday and bridge parties are reported at various homes, with attendees enjoying meals and refreshments. Additional entries note the M. B. From 12 to 12 40 one teacher oversees the grade building and one oversees the high school. no playground supervision in this period. Parents urged to keep children at home until 12 40 as a precaution.
In last week's Mines report the names Wm Thompsen Frank Christensen and P G Petersen were omitted from the husking bee list at the Wm Durin place due to a line error. The notice explains how the misprint occurred and regrets the harm to the three men, noting they are all No 1 corn pickers.

This morning two boys on a sled lost control on a hill near the Methodiat church and narrowly missed an oncoming car. Akron High School girls won their season opener 40 to 19, coached by Miss Mary Reidy, daughter of Dr and Mrs Roly.

A granary fire late Tuesday at the H. N. Jensen farm west of Estherville destroyed nearly 4,000 bushels of grain including 2,600 bushels of corn and oats and speltz. An 80 by 88 foot building with a 90 foot silo burned, with firefighters unable to save the main structure. The blaze started from a backfiring gasoline engine used in operating the corn elevator. four men nearby saw the flames as the fire raged, and the Wetherville department could only save a smaller crib. Jensen had insurance on the building and crop, but losses will be heavy.
The Junior class presented the play It Happened In June at Hawkeye Theatre Tuesday evening. The packed house applauded Betty Fink and Charles Atkins in a tale of Betty's chain store and romance in Shady Grove.
Banks report renewed circulation of old bills twenty ten and five dollars after eighteen months in use of new currency. Old paper money collected by banks is sent to Washington. A year ago this month many old bills resurfaced as confidence returned with the Hoover credit system reviving byzone days.
Snow Tuesday brought considerable early accumulation that melted, followed by an inch or more overnight. Wednesday morning showed a frosty, scenic view with wires and branches covered in snow. Roads were slushy and later very slippery and treacherous. a heavy foggy cover persisted.

John Mahan son of Mrs J Ta Mahan of south of town was injured Saturday when struck by a falling tree. No bones were broken but one leg and one shoulder were badly bruised. He walked with pain and hopes for a full recovery. He was cutting a tree and misjudged its fall direction and was caught beneath it.
P J O Connor of Kenmare says crops failed across the Kenmare vicinity as Times report conditions in North Dakota worsen. A Axelton of Graettinger is noted as turning 83 this Tuesday December 8th.
Wm Luke vic tim of paralysis Southeast of Graettinger suffered a stroke Saturday evening. For a time his condition was serious but he is now recovering and hopes for full restoration of health. He remains confined to bed and can talk only a little. Friends extend sincere wishes for his early recovery.
Kenneth Barringer, the son of Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Barringer, was injured in a coasting accident when his sled hit a post. His mouth and nose were cut and he was unconscious briefly but recovered and was able to be about afterward.
The Citizens' League of Palo Alto county will meet at the Court House in Emmetsburg Tuesday, December 15, to discuss the reduction of the tax list. Chas Bleckwenn, chairman, asks for your advice. Free coffee and cookies will be served at Thompson Grocery Saturday. everyone is welcome.
Zion Lutheran Church invites attendees to an English service next Sunday at 2:00 in the Methodist church after Sunday School. The message emphasizes preparing to celebrate Christmas by understanding its meaning and accepting the Child of Bethlehem by faith as personal Savior.
The church urges readiness for Christmas through reflecting on the Coming of Jesus and the coming Saviour. Plans are under way to observe Christmas with church services. Sunday is White Cross enrollment Sunday. members are asked to prepare to enroll.
Ruthven high and Graettinger teams clash Friday at Moore arena with an 8 p m tip. Graettinger boys and girls face Mallard previous results show losses while Mallard proves strong, but Graettinger opened close in the girls game and the boys trailed 9 8 after one quarter before Mallard pulled away to 48 20.
Ruthven hosted three Curlew squads Tuesday night. Curlew boys fell 17 11 to Ruthven, Curlew girls won 32 26, and Curlew Junior High boys lost 64 4. Earlier Curlew had gone two and two, beating Cylinder 33 6 and Ayr shire 18 12 while losing to Mallard 60 10 and Railman 20 18. they schedule a Friday game against Emmetsburg at Curlew.
Sunday services at First Lutheran 11 o clock Evangelist Lokken preaches an offering to Pension Fund. Lost Island Lutheran services also at 11 with Lokken at 2 PM and nightly Dec 20. Missionary Clarence Christianson and Chas Christianson assist. Pensioners count 800 as pastors and brethren need aid. Behold the Lord comes with reward and recompense.
IST Town Pauls Lutheran Church announces Sunday school at 10 a m and service at 11. An offering will be taken for retired and disabled pastors and wives.
