Colin Cabot, a young aide in General Washington's camp, meets Washington and General Greene. He learns war realities, political restraint, and camp discipline as Washington guides him. The diary-style notes reveal morale issues, powder shortages, and the plan to strengthen the army while Pat Inverweather and a romantic subplot with a Roxbury meeting unfold. Washington welcomes Colin's insight and promotes him, while Mrs. Washington arrives, exuding grace and maternal influence.
