Funeral of P C Nolan Held Saturday Morning
Funeral for Patrick Charles Nolan 85, longtime Palo Alto County pioneer, was held Saturday at the Catholic church with Rev Father Kelly officiating. He died Thursday at his son's home after a long life as a teacher and early sheriff, survived by four children and eleven grandchildren.

Spencer And Union Giants Here Labor Day
Spencer will play the Gilkerson Union Giants at the Labor Day celebration in Graettinger Monday, September 6th. These are two of the best ball clubs in this section of the country. This will be one of the best ball games ever staged in Graettinger. Spencer has an exceptionally fast bunch of players and have been winning from the leading semi-pro teams of northern Iowa and southern Minnesota. With the exception of Ellsworth, Minnesota, the Giants are about the only club that can make the outcome of a game with Spencer doubtful. It was impossible to secure Ellsworth and the committee was fortunate in arranging a game with the Giants.

Robbins Avenue in Graettinger gets another improvement as Herman Blyen bast purchases the corner block building, housing a blacksmith shop and Axelton Motor Company warehouse. Elsenbast will remodel the front and install a service station. Henry Westergard will rearrange his blacksmith shop occupying the east half, adding to the street’s appearance near the Rock Island track and depot.

Emmet county held a 4-H girls club achievement day with six clubs presenting booths in team colors. Ellsworth township won best booth and first in music memory. Loyal Helpers club represented by Opal Johnson and Alice Tindall won with the canning baked apples demonstration to advance to the State Fair. Dorothy Paugh, Florence Nielsen, and Kathryn Bosold earned top marks in meat, vegetables, and fruit and the sweep stake in fruit meat vegetables. Cheerful Workers will send three jars of high iron to the State Fair.
