Mrs O Rourke of Otter Creek Dies. Funeral Held

Mrs Patrick O Rourke of Otter Creek Jackson County mother of Mrs George Graettinger and sister of Mrs John Wilson died Wednesday August 6th. Funeral was held Friday with Mrs Graettinger in attendance. The O Rourkes longtime residents of Graettinger area owning the Dexheimer farm later. Survived by four brothers Andrew John Shean Otter Creek James of Dubuque Cornelius of Sioux City. Sincere sympathy extended to Mrs Graettinger family and Mrs Wilson.

Dairy Picnic at Emmetsburg Next Sunday

Annual dairy picnic sponsored by the Palo Alto County Cow Testing Association will be held at Hermah Damman home one half mile north of Emmetsburg across the old fair grounds road on Sunday August 20. Program includes judging at 11 am, picnic dinner at noon, address by Floyd Art Hold, sports for all ages, and an invitation to all dairying families. Graettinger defeated Emmetsburg B 8 to 0 in a kitten ball game Tuesday evening preceding the event.

Band And Boosters Visit In dettinger Tuesday

PAS booster group with the high school band toured In dettinger on Tuesday afternoon for a two day celebration. locals praised the band's unusual musical ability and youthful talent. The event featured a kitten pat game and a lively afternoon program associated with Ingsted Thursday and Friday activities.

Water Fountain Installed At Frick Corner

Graettinger gains a long awaited drinking fountain at the Frick drug store corner. Marshal Blom installed the unit last week with help from Charley Jonsen via an outside water pipe. The fountain serves youngsters and promises heavy summer use, while adding a pleasant street ornament. Mayor Spies and the council receive congratulations for their enterprise.

Walter Sabin Auction Sale Set Near Graettinger

Walter E. Sabin of the J. A. Splea farm six and one half miles northwest of Graettinger holds a closing-out sale on Wednesday August 23 starting at one o clock. The auction features 266 head of livestock including six high quality mules 19 milk cows 213 Cheater White hogs all vaccinated and a complete first class machinery collection. Nine months time terms. McCarty Couple Celebrate 50 Years in Graettinger

Members of the McCarty family gathered at Emmotebure on Sunday for the fiftieth wedding anniversary of J. D. McCarty and his wife. Relatives returned home after a wedding dinner at the Kermore hotel and a visit at the McCarty home. Friends called to offer congratulations and best wishes for continued health and happiness.

Mrs L H Ferguson of Promixé City Iowa spent the last month with her Earl Ferguson and family in Lost Island town. The Ferguson family retired in Groattinger years ago and Mr Ferguson was town marshal for several years. They resided in Colorado for years and recently purchased a farm near Promise ftown serving as their home.

Mildred Fox Weds Clay County Man In Spencer Ceremony

Mildred Fox and Arnoll W. Sampson were united in marriage at Spencer on Thursday August 10 at 4 pm officiated by Rev. G J Dagner of the Swedish Lutheran church. Attendants were Merle and Mise Hazel Suss. A six o’clock dinner followed at the bride’s parents home. The couple plans a wedding trip to the Black Hills and will reside on a farm near Spencer after September 15.

Legion Show At Grand Friday Night At Estherville

Maurice Doyle of the American Legion post in Estherville will present a loan benefit at the Grand Theatre Friday August 18. The double feature includes Lee Tracy in Private Jones with Gloria Stuart and the American Legion band opening. Admission is 36 cents.

Synner rewurnea toured the Streator area yesterday visiting relatives and friends near the oil camping ground of the Snyders Ruckers and Hooblers. No rain has fallen there since May. Corn fields show plow marks with tracks two feet deep and inches wide. The region remains very poor.

Graettinger area reports soaking rain Tuesday evening with at least two inches measured. The warm sultry day ended with a northwest dark cloud and gusts, then a southwest storm around six. Wind was strong but caused no damage and the rain benefits pastures gardens and corn.

The Harman Guataff sale Tuesday drew a good crowd with bids on cattle and hogs. Cows sold around 88 per head and hogs brought strong prices. Machinery also sold well. It was the first sale of the 1998-04 report period.

Donald Hendricks Dies in Los Angeles

Donald Hendricks aged about 30 died at his home in Los Angeles. His body will be shipped to Graettinger for funeral services in Graettinger Saturday morning at nine. Survived by wife, daughter, sister Frances Hendricks, sister Mrs John McBride, brother Martin Joe. mother Mrs H W Blair preceded in death. Local friends mourn his loss.
