John Mekkelson of Alta and father of Rev. C J Mekkelson died after a long illness aged 88. Born May 11 1841 in Alse Schleiswiz Denmark he lived four years in Australia before settling in Alta Iowa in 1872. Survived by wife and two sons Rev Mekkelson of this city and B A Mekkelson of Weaver Colorado. Funeral held Sunday at M E church with interment in parochial cemetery.

Second Mad Dog Scare Strikes Emmetsburg Area
The little son of Mr and Mrs Moud McCain of Emmetsburg was bitten by a mad dog Saturday. The dog was killed and its head sent to Town City for examination. The report stated the dog had rabies and the child will receive serum treatment. This is the second mad dog scare in Emmetsburg. Nearby, Vance Horswell of Graettinger was bitten by a cat and required serum after testing showed rabies.

Letter From Lorraine Kansas Harvest Report 1025
Oliver C McCallister Chas Christiansen and the writer traveled from Lorraine to Kansas harvest fields in late July. They used a Ford owned by McCallister, covered about two and a half days, and burned 21 gallons of gas plus 17 quarts of oil. Harvest was nearly finished with threshing underway, yields near 10 to 12 bushels per acre but straw short. Corn looked good on descent though some fields were burning out. Next week McCallister heads to Dakota harvest fields. the writer will return home.

Bill Roepe pitcher for the Doughboys has joined the shut out tank. Sunday he defeated the Car ney base ball team in a diamond ball game by a score of 8 to 0. The Car ney team has been playing base ball during the season and have developed a good aggregation. Diamond ball however was quite a change from hard ball.
