Joe and Mary Grady of Houston Texas, once Graettinger residents, share mild winter to spring weather. They note an opening of a big league game with the Houston Colts beating the Chicago Cubs. Seeding of small grain is the main local work this week as farmers were seen in fields Saturday. Graettinger high school baseball opened the season with a 7 to 1 loss to Cy-Minder. The lineup included L Luchsinger, W Dappen, C Sahurmann, Carl Bonstead, Bill Schany, Norman Petersen, K McCombs, R Jones, and Rustad pitching.
New fiction Savage Sam by Fred Gipson features the son of Old Yeller in East Texas during the 1870s. The tale follows Savage Sam and Travis as they pursue Apache captors and endure a perilous journey for help.
Graettinger bowling results show Hersleff's leading with a 2540 team series and 209 high game by Francis Schealler. Individual high series went to Leo Beschomer with 560. Teams include Hersleff's Graettinger Coop Wallingford Coop and Erickson's with scores listed.
Archie Scotty Keith aged 67 of Moose Lake Minnesota died suddenly from a heart attack on Tuesday April 3 while attending a county board meeting. Services were held April 7 at Moose Lake Methodist Church.
Archie Keith born in Canbeel Town Scotland on March 10 1895 came to America in 1913. He served in the Army 18 months overseas and later farmed in Wallingford Iowa and Forber North Dakota before settling near Moose Lake Minnesota. He was active in the American Legion VFW Townsend Club and state welfare work. He auctioned in Forbes ND starting 1923 with last sale in 1962. Surviving wife Eunice two sons Francis and Donald a daughter Effie and siblings. Burial at Sunset Cemetery Moose Lake follows a life of farming community service and auctioneering with travels to Scotland in 1955 56.
