The P T A meeting at the high school Friday evening will present a student exhibit of schoolwork and customs. The annual event includes the P T A program with Thelma Anderson and Andy at chorus and Mr Bartleman as the program leader. New officers for the coming year will be elected.
Henry Westergard of Graettinger announces Democratic nomination bid for Palo Alto County clerk of the district court. He has served three terms on Graettinger town council and runs a Nashua area business career in blacksmithing wagon and wood work. His supporters in Graettinger and northwest Iowa back his campaign.
Gradlinger fire company responded Tuesday afternoon to a small blaze at the P. J. Paulsen residence caused by a blow torch used in removing paint. Flames penetrated the cornice but limited damage occurred as siding was removed and interior remained intact while furniture was moved out.
The Emmetsburg and Graettinger high school baseball teams will play at Graettinger diamond Friday afternoon, with first pitch at three o clock. A small admission fee will be charged.
A splendid musical program was given at the M E Church Monday evening under the direction of Harry Keller. Participants included Mr and Mrs Harry Keller Dale Noble and the Young Peoples chorus. The program was carried out in full and the church was packed.
The notice explains that Fourth Liberty Bonds with serial numbers ending in 0 1 or 9 have been called for exchange or redemption and interest stopped April 45. Coupons become invalid after April 16. A new batch ending in 2 or 8 will have interest halted October 16, with redemption from September 16 to October 15. Graettinger State Bank offers the necessary blanks.
District No 2 Walnut Township reports eight pupils achieved six weeks with no absence or tardy. Named students include Lavida Rasmussen Resell Haag Edward Haag Duane Johnson Gladys Simonsen David Tbach Melvitt Rasmussen Irene Simonsen and Raymond Simonsen. Teacher Ailene Duffy comments on exemplary attendance.
A Des Moines conference Monday involving Palo Alto W A committee members and state relief directors concluded that Palo Alto will not receive federal relief funds at present. County supervisors may later match federal funds. The leftover 1600 from CWA entitlements was discussed amid disputed reports of funds diverted by Emmetsburg, with several officials unaware of the division.
Building and soliciting committees of the Lost Island Lutheran church are soliciting funds to replace a structure destroyed by fire. A meeting of members is planned for the latter part of April to hear reports. Committees have reportedly met with special success.
At a recent board of supervisors meeting a unanimous resolution authorized placing 60,000 dollars in cash in Graettinger State Bank. The bank is newly established and among the new banks statewide earning strong deposits.
The report states dry weather with daily high winds stirring dust storms. Sowing is delayed by the winds and the weather remains quite cool, signaling a need for moisture.

Thomas H. Rierson, a longtime area resident, died Saturday in Ruthven following a stroke two days earlier. He had earlier suffered severe injuries from an automobile collision in April 1990 after moving from Lost Island township with his wife, who died in 1980. Rierson, born June 23, 1865 in Numindahl Norway, had worked in Emmetsburg and later ran a mercantile store in Grachtinger with his brother. Six sons served as pallbearers at the Lutheran funeral conducted by Rev. L. C. Wigdahl with Rev. M. Mandsager assisting. interment was in Lost Ishind cemetery.
Dana College A Capella Choir from Blair Nebraska brings a sacred program to Hawkeye Theatre Monday evening April 28 at 8 with no instruments. Under Guenar iJ Matmin the forty member group will sing from memory under St Pauls Lutheran auspices. The choir has toured the Midwest and Europe and earned praise from critics.
Stanley Gardner of Graettinger and Alberta Anderson of Spirit Lake were married in Spirit Lake at the Presbyterian manse with Rev. Herbert Marsh officiating. The couple will reside in Manchester where Gardner works. Alberta is a Spirit Lake native, daughter of Lloyd and Mrs. Anderson. The bride has teaching experience and has been living with her grandmother in Spirit Lake.
Auction at Clifford Spear proceeds this afternoon as Grod land and Reeves push the sale toward completion while the Grachtinger State Bank acts as clark in the proceedings.
Graettinger and Ruthven high schools staged a three act program at Hawkeye Theatre. Ruthven performed Ambition while Graettinger presented Grandma Pulls The String and Elmer. Casts spoke clearly, Ruthven dance added charm, and a social after with refreshments followed.
Beginning Wednesday April 26 Groettinger business places will stay open until 10 p m on Wednesday evenings to accommodate patrons during the busy season. Local establishments express eagerness to serve customers later.
Grain prices and livestock notes appear in a fragment of the IGRALTTINGER Market Report dated Thursday April 19 1934. The readable lines reference corn oats hens and roosters with scattered misreadable entries and no clear totals or vendors.
Spencer and Algona will have liquor stores while Palo Alto may receive none unless the state liquor board grants a permit. The county is not overlooked as fewer than sixty stores are planned statewide. more may come later and each county could gain a place for personal liberty. Graettinger notes no demand for the product and no resident bootlegger for years.
Mrs Wm Currans of Ruthven died at Spencer hospital after a brief illness. She had six sons and daughters, including Joe, Francis, William, Iyene, Kathryn, and Mrs A W Clasing, and was born April 9 1875 in Vernon township. Funeral services were at Sacre Heart Ruthven with Father Leo McEvoy officiating. interment in parochial cemetery. Local and distance relatives attended in sorrow.
E M Carney of Deming New Mexico and P C Jackman of Em matsburg visited Graettinger on a weekend trip. Carney, a former Graettinger clerk of courts and longtime royal mail carrier, was warmly greeted by local friends before departing.
A personal letter from Kelly Gammon in Los Angeles dated April 5 1984 describes paying a subscription, recovering from eye surgery, and experiences with the Los Angeles Police Department. He notes wages and farm prices, traffic, and fond memories of work in radio cars and dispatch duties across fifteen city divisions.
The auction sale of Wm. Pen household goods and garden tools held Saturday drew a good crowd and satisfactory prices. Mr Penn was absent due to poor eyesight. Mrs Penn is bed bound. The couple reside near Graettinger and have many old friends in the area. they are now at their son Robert's home in Estherville.
Mrs Sones wife of Dr Sones of Des Moines will broadcast from station WHO at Des Moines Friday at 12 46 p m. She is a former Graettinger high school teacher known earlier as Miss Alice Fischer. She taught in Laverne Los Angeles Chicago and Des Moines after leaving Graettinger. Mrs George Frick of Graettinger is visiting Mrs Sones in Des Moines.
Grain markets fell this week with corn slipping to 80 cents on Wednesday and oats down to 20 cents. The decline marks a downward shift in staple commodity values amid trading activity and market sentiment.
Merle Groland son of Mr and Mrs M Grodland of this city has been hired as principal and coach in Lone Rock schools. He previously served two years as principal and coach at Curlew. He receives a substantial salary increase. The Lone Rock school board calls him a first class teacher and exceptionally successful coach.
Mrs Marsh, a former Graettinger resident, died at her Sheldon home Tuesday after a week of illness. The Marshes moved from Graettinger to Sheldon last November and owned acreage north of Graettinger, having bought it from M. D. Grodland. She was well regarded and sympathy is extended to her husband and relatives.
