Fire damages Lammers home as attic blaze ends
A roof fire at Henry Lammers home Wednesday noon was quickly extinguished after sparks from the chimney ignited the attic. Sam Reynolds of Jensen Hardware had been working on electric wires in the attic and was in the house at noon when smoke filled the area. Firefighters and neighbors helped extinguish the blaze, nearly costing Mr. Lammers his fine home.

Selee Secures City Hall Contract For Graettinger
C A Selee won the contract for the new city hall and fire station in Graettinger at 3880. Other bidders were Dubina Show and Oscaragra with bids near 3000. Work to begin at once, with completion expected by August first. Bond proceeds, 49000, were previously approved and funds are on deposit locally. The building will be a one story 6 by 40 feet structure on the old jail site, housing a jail, council room, fire equipment, and later electric pumping in the basement.

Graettinger Men Survive Close Auto Crash on State Road
In Graettinger Friday evening about eight, H. Horswell, Jin Graettinger, and C. F. Fleming avoided serious injury after a Buick owned by Cap Klein of Humboldt clipped Horswell’s Chevrolet coach on the Graettinger Wallingford route. The Buick windshielded wheel and body parts suffered costly damage. Horswell’s car was about 90 damage. The Klein car, insured double indemnity, faced $200 in damage. The near miss occurred near a small bridge with a steel railing end and a sharp turn, narrowly avoiding a plunge down an embankment. The Buick driver, who was from Estherville, managed the vehicle well in the pinch.
