Shortly before noon last Saturday the infant daughter of Perry Boger and his wife, living one mile west of Harlan, swallowed a small amount of arsenic. Dr. N J Shook of Grail treated the child, administering antidotes to draw the poison, and the little one is expected to recover.

Mrs Emmett Bets of near Springfield Center was taken to Fort Wayne hospital for appendicitis surgery on Tuesday. Two sacks of second class mail were destroyed last Sunday when the eastbound fast passenger train No 2 ran them over. Burton Phillips of Latto Ohio visited his brother in law F D Tope and wife on Sunday. The former's daughter Helen, who stayed several weeks, returned home with him, joined by their niece Donna Zent of Huntington. J J Schlatter's funeral drew a large crowd to the Mennonite church with many unable to enter, as residents from Berne Decatur Geneva Fort Wayne Woodburn Harlan Leo and nearby towns attended.

Joseph J Schlatter born March 18 1849 in Muhlshausen France died May 17 1917 at Grabill Indiana aged 68 years 2 months 4 days He married Lydia Roth December 2 1876 they lived 40 years 4 months 18 days eight children survive with seven grandchildren and siblings Noah 3 predeceased him He immigrated with parents to the United States and settled near Lee before farming near Grabill He was a deacon in the Defenseless Mennonite church a charter member of the Salem Orphanage Association and active in missionary work Funeral services were held at the Mennonite church with interment at Leo cemetery Card of thanks from Mrs J J Schlatter and family.
A recent wind and electric storm caused extensive damage in Grabit and nearby Leo. Trees and fences toppled, outbuildings and parts of structures damaged, and in Grabit the Missionary church bell tower lost bricks. In Leo the high school windows shattered and the M E church bell tower and chimney were struck. The power plant fuse and motor burned out, halting church services Sunday evening.
Grover Eager a prominent farmer near North Scipio died suddenly last Tuesday morning due to choking. He had throat trouble recently and is survived by his wife and five children. Funeral services are set for Friday morning at the Scipio M M E church with burial in Scipio cemetery.
