Local merchant duped by sharper in Grabill incident

F D Tope of The Fair Store fell victim to a bank after hours scam by a man posing as a laborer. The fake twenty dollar check altered to read twenty with a missing word led to a $1975 payout. The suspect fled to Ft Wayne then Peru before capture and return to face charges of obtaining money under false pretense.

Ministers Exchange Pastors In Indiana Township

An agreement was reached last week exchanging pastorates between Rev. E. E Wright of Harlan M E Church and Rev. L. G. Carnes of Poneto Indiana. A conference with the district superintendent Rev. W W Martin approved the move. Wright and family left for the new field while Carnes arrives in Harlan to assume duties immediately.

George Walbold eldest son of John Walbold near Cedarville was struck on the head by a ball during a ball game at Union Chapel. The blow fractured his skull, he was knocked unconscious and taken home, then rushed to a hospital in Fort Wayne where he remains unconscious. Dr. N J Shook of Grabil attended him and hopes for a recovery though the outlook is serious.
