William Baumgartner of Elkhart was sentenced to 1 to 14 years in the Jeffersonville reformatory after pleading guilty to jewelry theft in South Bend. He wept at sentencing and will be transported Monday. he'll be about 27 and unmarried.
Congressman A L Brick of South Bend attacks the Loud bill proposing rural free delivery under contract or star route. He argues against using the contract system for appointing rural mail carriers and continues his opposition after returning to Washington.
Goshen High School Athletics Association held a meeting to elect a track captain as practice begins for the triangular meet. Kelly, elected last year, resigns from track and baseball duties. A second meeting will name his successor. The May 31 meet will be held on Joseph H. Lesh’s farm.
Dr Murkie died at his East Berry Street home after a long illness his wife an adopted daughter and a Chicago based sister survive. Funeral held Thursday at 2 p m at the Lutheran church with Rev Herron of the M E church officiating. Also announced death of Minnie Belle Sheets 17 daughter of Clement Sheets from consumption near Elk Hart on Edwardsburg road.

A three year old boy, son of Mr and Mrs James Miltenberger of North Main street, fell under a tile wagon at Main street and Oak Ridge avenue yesterday afternoon and was crushed. He was found unconscious with bleeding and taken home. doctors reported extensive bruises and a crushed foot but said internal injuries were not as severe as feared and recovery was expected. The driver stayed with the family after the incident and witnesses noted no blame on the operator.
A special election today to approve a $30,000 subsidy for the Goshen Fort Wayne electric line proceeded without incident. Voters cast about half the usual turnout with an expected victory around five to one in favor. Transportation by railway carriages aided turnout. Waterford backed the subsidy about two to one while East and West Goshen opposed. Other elections in Turkey Creek Kosciusko and Noble townships were also held with uncertain results.

Incumbents for clerk marshal and treasurer and several councilmen sought renomination but were rejected. George W. Dresser named for clerk Elmer B. Funk for treasurer and William H. Funk for marshal.
Mises Charlotte Lee, 80, was fatally burned yesterday near a kitchen stove in Warsaw while praying. Comforters wrapped around her caught fire. she was severely burned before help arrived. By noon today she remained alive but is believed to die.
Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Abbott and Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Hubbell returned yesterday from Mexico where they spent about three weeks. They enjoyed the trip but are glad to be back home. The journey consumed fourteen days in travel.
