County Horse Shows Conclude With Top 12 Advancing

The final 4 H horse show in Gonzales County concluded Friday June 17 with Mary Rucker of Boerne judging. Points from three shows determined 12 members to advance to District competition July 1 in Beeville. Winners include Champion mare Cathy Lott and Reserve Gay Schieberle.

Cattlemen Urged to Attend June Hearing on Beef Imports

Independent Cattlemen's Association president T A Cunningham called Texas and neighboring area cattlemen to attend June 28 hearings in Fort Worth by the U S Trade Commission. The sessions assess how imported beef affects the domestic cattle industry and may prompt action to curb imports if damage is found.

Clark Baptist Church Revival Draws Community

The Clark Baptist Church announces a revival from June 27 to July 3 with Rev. Jerry Wells as evangelist. Lillian Bluhm and Manuel Jiminez will play piano and Jiminez will lead songs. Evening services begin 8 p.m. nightly, with two services on Sunday July 3 at 11 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Area Riders Finish Horsemanship Clinic At Lions Arena

A three day horsemanship clinic at Lions Arena Independence Park drew 30 horsemen. Dallas and Friendswood aides Lee Ann Hammett and Cyndi Blanken led sessions on grooming western disciplines pole bending barrel racing and showmanship. Participants learned leads pivots rollbacks backing and proper saddle posture along with war bridle use.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Rudy Ellen Wilson

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday from the Seydler-Hill chapel for Mrs. Rudy Ellen Wilson who died in Gonzales at 7 p.m. Tuesday. Elder Norman Cooper officiated and the burial was in Saturn Cemetery.

Rites Set For Mrs Emillie Barthels at Buffington Funeral

Funeral services for Mrs Emillie A Barthels will be held at 2 p m Thursday at Buffington Funeral Home with Rev David Crabtree officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery. She died Tuesday at Care Inn Nursing Home born June 29 1898 in Gonzales County. Survivors: three sons Max Herbert Dannie Schellenberg two daughters Annie Rachel six grandchildren three brothers Emil Henry Ed Knesek three sisters Annie Hall Mary Robbins Katie Howard. Her son Louis Schellenberg and infant daughter preceded her in death.

Young Farmers Sponsor Beef Cattle Pregnancy Testing Short Course

The Gonzales County Young Farmer Chapter will sponsor a two day Beef Cattle Pregnancy Testing Short Course on June 23 and 24. Raul Hinojosa is the instructor and the program runs free of charge at the Vocational Agriculture Department for theory then at the Luling Foundation for hands on practice. The course welcomes non members and costs about 125 dollars elsewhere.

Hospital 38 Percent Complete Gonzales district board reviews progress and staff changes

The Gonzales Hospital District reports the new facility is 38 percent finished with concrete foundations poured and most steel up. Administrator Watts notes May occupancy at 45 percent, year to date 43.1 percent, tax collection at 88.48 percent, and pending July interest on delinquent taxes.
