The contest ends May 31 1909 at six o'clock. Votes after May 27 must be in sealed envelopes with money. Bank deposits allowed to hold sealed votes until after counting. Judges and a publisher will count and award two all expenses paid trips to Seattle. Last standings released next week.
The trustee in the Westby Brothers bankruptcy reports a preliminary account and calls a creditors meeting in Sparta Monroe County to declare a dividend. Creditors are advised a meeting will be held at the trustee s office.
A Catholic mass will be held at Beach next Sunday May 28 at 10 30 a m. Congregational services move to the old school house with Sunday school at 2 p m preaching at 3 p m and Christian Endeavor at 7 30 p m. All are invited to attend.
The Golden Valley Creamery at Beach resumes operations tomorrow May 22 with C. A. Solvik as buttermaker. Patrons should bring cream on that date and the creamery will be open Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays thereafter to receive cream as an effort to run on a paying basis.
J. R. Smith operates a large drill outfit on his farm this Wednesday to sow flax. He splits power between plowing and sowing and aims to break 2000 acres if conditions stay favorable. The three 12 foot drills and packers will sow and pack over 100 acres daily on a three mile field.
W G Cornell of Carrington plans a gasoline laundry on the north side. He has six years in the business and aims to open around June 1, stating the new operation will handle all kinds of work once running.
Col. J. W. Foley of Medora riding eastbound on Sundays train reports the Saturday night quake was felt distinctly through the Bad Lands region. The Bismarck Tribune notes the tremor reached across multiple towns and prompted brief dispatches.
W. W. Larsen the jeweler moves to the Letson building with new fixtures and stock. The store features a large assortment of post cards and several new lines, presenting a neat and attractive storefront. See ad on the back page.
District court will convene at Medora on Tuesday June 1 presided by Judge W C Crawford with clerk Paul Lebo. Forty one naturalization applicants six criminal cases and ten or more civil cases listed for the docket. Jurors drawn include R L Barnet S M Farr Frank Haigh J B Finger and others.
The Yates team played five innings last Sunday, wind scattering many scores as Beach piled up a large total. Belfield visits next week amid anticipated lively action, with Wibaux potentially in town pending arrangements.
John Madison, the water well expert, completed a six inch bore to 120 feet for C. E. Barber on the north side. He struck a strong sand flow that rose within 35 feet of the surface in hours. The well is lined with heavy six inch steel tubing and praised as the best in town.
W E Montgomery and Miss Mannetta Rataczyk were married last Saturday at Glendive by the local Methodist pastor. The couple, residents of Beach, were attended by Harry and Florence Halstead. Montgomery recently opened a harness shop in the Piesik building and plans to establish a home on the north side. The Chronicle extends congratulations.
A light quake was felt around nine o clock causing dishes to rattle and houses to jar amid a unusually still evening. A fine rain fell earlier in the week and local residents report various community notes including visits, illnesses, and homestead activity nearby.
The Valley saw two heavy rain periods this week totaling about 24 inches. Mr Steiner of the Experiment Station reports roughly 14 inches in the first spell and another inch in the second. The rainfall brightens mood and skies clear after the showers.
The Olson McGregor election contest will be tried by a jury before Judge Crawford. A July date is expected with a special jury likely. The case stalled due to Attorney Baker’s sudden death. Denoyer now represents Mr. Olson while R N Stevens of Bis marck represents Mr. McGregor. The outcome will attract interest.
The 187 year old Masonic apron owned by R M Andrews of Beach North Dakota dates to the death of his mother last August. It descended from his father and grandfather after arriving in America in 1772 with Andrews’s maternal lineage from England.
A slight earthquake shock was felt around nine o'clock Saturday evening across Helena Montana to Dickinson. The tremor caused noticeable rattling of dishes and pictures and was strong enough in Helena to damage buildings in reports from the region.
The Golden Valley State Bank has appointed C. C. Kucheman as cashier. Kucheman, from Maquoketa Iowa, formerly cashier of Jackson State Savings Bank, will move to Beach North Dakota to lead a Cole Bros bank venture. R. E. Fuller from DeSmet South Dakota becomes new book keeper. Noble the retiring cashier may join the reorganizing bank.
Holger Toftoy of Stondall Land & Investment Co. visits from St Paul. Wanted buyers for 130 acres of breaking land near Beach North Dakota. C E Barber plants trees and pipes water from a new well to the lawn. The south Main Street two story frame building is finished awaiting occupants. W G Ballock of Union Grove Wisconsin tours town with visitors about local real estate holdings. A B Kellogg adds a metal front and plans enlargement. W W Skelton of Scotts Bluff Nebraska buys half section 19 1061 Montana and Ed Gudsos of Cashton Wisconsin buys section 19 61 from Frank Groves. both plan to move here.
