Near and Stockwell press for damages of 5000 dollars in lawsuits against the Chronicle editor alleging physical and mental injuries. A sixth action against J A Haigh is listed with similar claims. The cases, plus another 35000 suit, proceed to the district court term.
A rousing St Patrick's Day echo arrives in Beach on Monday March 28 as the Trish drama Shaun Aroon performs at Brinton Opera House. A fifteen member company presents a tale of eviction and conspiracy with songs by John Lyons and Gertrude Haynes. Tickets available at Lee's Drug Store.
Fargo Forum manager H. C. Plumley and editor Chas Brewer were arrested on three counts of criminal libel by H. H. Thompson, son of ex-senator F. L. Thompson. The charges stem from a Forum article alleging Gov. Burk and Supt. Stockwell attempted to cover up a fraudulent sale of school lands.
Four day county teachers institute to be held in Beach starts Monday with Supt Kitchen estimating over a hundred teachers will attend. Citizens urged to house visitors at regular rates. Principal Nelson and State Supt Stockwell will attend along with Prof Hollis and Prof Berg.
A Golden Valley man mourns a wife found through a matrimonial sheet who vanished with two suitcases of rags and a $17 sky piece. He vows to avoid women, while the town reports thirteen new automobiles arriving this spring, with more on the way.
District court adjourned last Tuesday with remaining cases carried to the next term. The Dow and Klauber versus Carlson jury disagreed and will be reheard. The state versus Rozell also ended in disagreement and will return. J A Haigh was found guilty of common assault and battery, fined 25 dollars, then a civil suit for 5000 dollars was begun. Criminal libel against J W Brinton was postponed until June term due to absent witnesses. the feud between Near Stockwell and Brinton continues with multiple actions and costly county expenses anticipated.
