The bride, daughter of Mr and Mrs W B Nichols, taught in local schools and homesteaded government land at Beach. They will live on their homestead near Beach while the groom continues business affairs there.

Land dealer J R Smith buys 8500 acre Montana ranch
J R Smith, noted land man and farmer, added to his holdings by purchasing a one third interest in a large 8, 500 acre improved ranch near Columbus in western Montana. Bowman county Register of Deeds Hughes joined as a co purchaser in the deal.

A late Saturday cyclonic storm swept northern and central North Dakota causing nine deaths and many injuries. The disaster destroyed about a quarter of a million dollars in property and crippled telephonic and telegraphic lines.

Lightning Strikes Home Near Town Killing Steer
Last Friday during a storm, lightning hit Mrs. Jennie Halstead’s house five miles south of town. The bolt ripped the chimney, damaged the kitchen, and caused Mrs. Halstead to suffer minor bruises after bricks flew onto her bed. In the same storm A O Whitney reported a steer killed by lightning.

Woman Killed by Lightning in Beaver Creek Country
A severe storm in Marmarth area Saturday night killed Mrs. Tilden Martin and horses when a bolt struck their buggy near the Dean ranch. Mr. Martin was burned and paralyzed, while the two young daughters survived, with the older girl guiding help to the Dean ranch. The Dean house was damaged by the same lightning strike. Beach post office gains announce a postmaster salary rise to 1500 dollars per year effective July 1 1909, among broader North Dakota adjustments.

Commencement Exercises Held Despite Thunder Storm
The commencement exercises last Friday at the hall featured Mr. Crawford as principal speaker despite a thunder storm. Carl Bratton opened with music, Rev. Douglas offered a prayer, and a ladies quartet performed. Prof. Nelson welcomed the class, Elsie Jordan gave the class motto, and Harl Dickinson delivered the history. Miss Forsyth played violin, Supt. Kitchen presented diplomas, with additional music from the quartet.

In Medora a platform truck carrying seventy bushels of oats spilled on an incline after two baggage handlers failed to hold the load. One trucker paused the team, but the other could not restrain the weight, sending the load over the edge amid a lively scene at the station.
