New Passenger and Mail Service Changes at Beach

Passenger service improves with four local trains per day Man dan to Glendive and added No s 7 and 8. Mail service shifts discontaining No 1 and adding Nos 7 and 8 with two east and three west per day. About 80 track crew members left for St Paul as cold weather slows work.

Burkey correspondence reports T J Rodgers returning from Rochester and Mrs T J Rodgers in Rochester hospital. H Bates and Jas Thill did business in Sentinel Butte. Burkey correspondent reports increased trade prompting hiring of help. Annie Swinghammer left for home in the east. Wallie Page requires an operation and travels to Rochester with his father. No Five Points school this week due to the absent teacher. James Thill Hubert Bates and Tony visit Beach. John Zimmer also at Beach. Swinghammer couple welcome a newborn son. Mrs Swinghammer stays in the east. Christmas wedding rumors hint at a forthcoming Tony affair.

Santa Claus Arrives in Beach For Christmas Opening

Santa arrives Monday afternoon at 3:00 at Mr. P. H. Lee’s new Beach store for a Christmas opening with free town rides, an orchestra, carnations for ladies, cigars for gentlemen, and a children serenade. Letters accepted at the store office until Christmas Eve. A second notice thanks customers for lumber firm Trondson & Witting with overdue accounts at Golden Valley State Bank.

Dickinson Elks Dance a Grand Banquet at State Armory

Dickinson Lodge No. 1187 Elks held a banquet and ball at the state’s largest armory drawing about 600 attendees. The event featured the Dickinson Orchestra, lavish decorations, refreshment booths, and a midnight banquet, ending at dawn with revelers content in a night of entertainment and hospitality.

City Council Agrees To Sidewalks And New Official Paper

The city council met Monday night but lacked a quorum and adjourned. Alderman Brinton’s vacancy led to the choice of F D Cooper to join the council. A sidewalk grade on Blanche street north from the railroad was approved with 5 ft 4 in walks from crossing to city limits. Russell Milling Co will defer cement walks until weather improves. A committee will seek N P crossing to connect sidewalks across the track. The Chronicle was named the official city paper. The council will reconvene Monday evening.
