Death toll rises in local families and rail accident

Six month old infant of Mr and Mrs John Van Doren dies at seven miles west of the city. Funeral services held at home. Herman Jr two year old dies at eight miles southwest, funeral at home. Joe Florek dies after an emobolism post appendicitis. family not at bedside. L W Berge struck by a stock train near Sentinel Butte. funeral held with Wisconsin relatives attending. Pioneer Captain Near Prefers South Dakota To North Dakota

Captain C A Near, an old South Dakota pioneer, visited Sioux Falls and spoke of selling his Turner county farm for 20000 dollars to start a bank in Beach North Dakota. He said South Dakota offers bigger crops and better living, and that if he could start over he would move back to South Dakota and retire there. He criticized North Dakota weather and noted he would have stayed in the state if given the chance.

A Fine Run of Patronage at New Municipal Lodging House

The new lodging house, built for a band stand, reports strong patronage at night. It offers clean light and ventilated rooms but is smaller than Waldorf Astoria and Audi torium. F. H. Stephens of Beach, cashier for the Northern Pacific, spoke after noon in Fargo about booming growth in Beach and Golden Valley. He praised crops, denied discontent, and predicted a strong Beach delegation with possible special trains for Colonel Roosevelt’s visit, citing no official details.
