Flax Wilt Disease and Seed Treatment Findings
The North Dakota Experiment Station reports flax wilt is caused by a soilborne fungus and infests land for years. Seed treatment with formaldehyde boosts yields and can impart resistance when seed is saved from diseased crops. Farmers should save homegrown seed, grade for plump seed, and properly treat 16 oz formaldehyde per 40 gallons of water before sowing. Agricultural College ND, Feb 28, 1907.
