An Associated Press dispatch from Tacoma reports the Treadwell mine on Douglas Island Alaska began the world’s largest stamp mill on May 18. D O Mills directed the 60 battery mill with five stamps each and four tons per stamp per day, now running 880 stamps total. The complex crushes about 8820 tons daily yielding roughly 14 000 dollars in gold, with one third sent as concentrates to Tacoma and two thirds refined on site.
