The Glenboro Health District annual meeting on May 18 1983 at the Glenboro Legion Hall drew about 35 attendees. Dr J P Horton chaired and opened with minutes from 1982. donations and construction progress for the Personal Care Home were highlighted.
Manitoba plan doubles Senior Citizens Weeks to May 29 through June 6 with regional playoffs and finals in Winnipeg. Highlights include Polo Park Mall opening June 6 with dignitaries, arts crafts, health lectures, and a seniors golf and bridge day. The M.S.O.S. coordinates activities and entries.
Federal and provincial ministers announce a 10-year lease renewal for Camp Shilo, covering 82 170 acres. The deal, to be reviewed in 1993 and then extended 20 years, includes annual payments of 164 340 dollars for five years and allows timber and grazing permits. The Shilo Environment Advisory Committee will oversee a three year environmental study.
Festival Showcase 83 runs Saturday at 8 p.m. in Somerset Community Hall featuring five performers from Mountain Music and Dance Festival Mountain Speech Arts and Drama Festival Pilot Mound Festival Tiger Hills Band Festival and Tiger Hills Music and Drama Festival. Master of Ceremonies Henry Peters of Altona brings broad festival credentials. The event marks the first area concert uniting top talent and will announce the Arts Career Scholarship winner. A regional showcase is planned for Pilot Mound or Holland next year.
