The Glenboro South Cypress Fire Department responded to multiple grass fires in recent weeks. The latest incident occurred Sunday at Jim Rolfe’s farm southwest of Glenboro where bales and grass burned and high winds spread the fire. Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution with burning due to dry conditions and rapid spread.
The Glenboro and Carberry Chambers approved Camel Park electricity lighting and new facilities ahead of summer. Plans include January 1984 Dog Sled Races with a joint food booth, Sahara Event and Baseball Tournament in late May and June with Curling Club cooperation. Executive meetings for chamber members are set for the 2nd Tuesday each month at 7:30 a.m.
Archie Richmond of Cypress River Manitoba crafts tall case clocks by hand using red oak stock and German-made works. He constructs back panels from quality plywood, joins with birch dowelling glue and screws, and adds hand carved leaves under the crown. Finishes include walnut and red oak stains with seven coats of antiquing oil for gloss.
The Santa Clara Baseball League held its annual meeting in Cypress River on Tuesday April 26 1983 led by President Rene Aubry. Kinosota was admitted to join the eight existing teams with a 20 man roster for league play set to begin May 18 and Glenboro Canucks open at Carberry May 18 then host Cypress River May 20. two teams may enter the Provincial A playdown while one can enter the B playdown.
Village council reports 105000 in permits approved to date in 1983 for two dwellings under construction with two more on hold and similar cost expectations. Dwellings planned on Broadway James Lyall Streets and Railway Avenue. A&R Tax Services building to be moved north on Railway. May meeting covers voter list enumerator cost sharing with Tiger Hills School Division and funding decisions including lagoon debentures and a $2339.84 grant match for Glenboro Golf Club facilities.
A capacity audience attended the Spring of '83 Fashion Show in Kinsmen Community Hall on May 6. The Agricultural Society sponsored ready to wear items from Jacqueline's Fashions Foord Kelcey's Men's Shop and Macleods Family Shopping Centre along with home sewn pieces from Needle Nook.
Bev Murray led the Tiger Hills Division Choir in a May 1 concert at Glenboro United Church after an earlier performance in Pilot Mound United Church. The diverse program featured Bach and Allegri pieces, folk songs, aunaccompanied I Love My Love, Movin On and I Cant Smile Without You, with tenor solos praised by a good-sized audience.
