Glenboro Girl Guides wrap up season with a May 31 gathering, honoring outdoor cooking camping skills and junior camper badges earned during a Spruce Woods Park camp May 27 28 29. Aircraft badge given by Ken Northey from Rob-Ken Aerial Service. guides thank him with a gift.
The Hire-A-Student program reports 25 regular job placements 21 through Careerstart with one casual position. Registrations reached 93 for regular employment and 3 casual. Carberry district added with weekly Carberry office hours in summer. Hire A Student week set for late June to boost employer participation. Contact 827-2525 for details.
The Rachel Rebekah Lodge memorial service followed opening ceremonies on Monday June 6 with 27 members present. Framed by flower offerings and a Charter drape in memory of Bro Lorne Witherspoon the gathering was led by N G Sister Joyce Wallis and W G Sister Annie Smart.
On May 27 1983 seventeen Glenboro Brownies and three leaders camped overnight at Spruce Woods Park. They earned two badges including a 3 kilometer hike and slept in tents before returning for supper. Melba Elliott and Brenda Tosh helped with departure. On June 4 fifteen Brownies and leaders attended a Brownie Revel at the Keystone Centre Brandon with about 300 attendees from the Assiniboine area.
The district notes a busy week in sports with senior girls softball taking third in the west division after a loss to Bruxelles in the zone playoff. Senior boys won a double-header in Baldur but fell to Bruxelles at home. Jr boys relay team placed fifth at the Provincial B meet in Brandon with 4 11. Lawrence Lannoo also competed in discus. An orientation for grade nine parents is set for Monday June 13 at 7 30 p m in the school theatre to discuss courses and post secondary plans. Upcoming dates include June 10 track meet June 16 band concert June 17 awards day June 24 and 27 exams and June 20 graduation.
