The Reporter announces a four page Shopper published each Wednesday and delivered to 500 Glen Rose homes. Ads are due Tuesday by 10:00 AM with 25 cent classified rates and 1 to 5 dollar display rates. Free notices of public interest are included.
Next Tuesday October 3 at 10 00 a m a brief program of appreciation will be held at the new Paluxy River Bridge on Farm Road 295. Somervell County sponsors the event to thank the Texas Highway Department for completed and upcoming projects. Attendees include R A Bossy district engineer George Black senior resident engineer and district staff as well as local department members.
Mr and Mrs Jim Hawthorne of Ft Worth announce the birth of a son, James Robert, born Tuesday September 26 1961 in a Ft Worth hospital weighing 8 lbs 14 oz. Grandparents are Hale and Mrs Riddle of Glen Rose and J C Hawthorne of Ft Worth. Great grandparents include B W Hamill and G W Riddle of Glen Rose and the Hawthornes of Jasper Texas.
Funeral services for 84 year old Lula West were conducted Monday September 25 1961 at Glen Rose Funeral Chapel with Rev. John H Basham officiating. She died September 24 at her home near Glen Rose. Survived by husband J M West five sons Murray Sonley Edd Jack Willis West three daughters Eliza Holley Lawrence McCoy Horace Privitt along with twenty grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren One son Lee West was killed in World War II Pallbearers included grandsons James West J C West Carl West Lynn West Tommy Ingram and Bob West Burial followed at Glen Rose Cemetery with Glen Funeral Home in charge.
Griff McConal’s kittens defeated Comanche 8 to 0 on Tuesday night marking their second win. They previously beat Hico and lost to Hamilton.
Members of the Tiger Band Association begin selling a Birthday Calendar as this year’s sole fundraiser. Calendars cost two dollars and include birthdays and anniversaries. extra listings are twenty five cents. Zone III residents of Bosque District will vote on October 3 at 8:00 PM in the County Court House for a five year supervisor. Doyle Cooper urges all eligible landowners and their wives to vote, noting district aims include technical service and watershed projects. A short film and talks by Gary Westmoreland and a District Supervisor precede the election.
Effie Spears King 73 died last Friday after hospital treatment. Services were Sunday at Nally Pickle Chapel Big Spring with burial in City Cemetery. Survived by daughter Mrs L Z Marchbanks Big Spring and son M R Spears Birmingham Michigan.
William Wood and his wife Charlotte visit his parents Eld. and Mrs. A. D. Wood as he prepares for deployment. Wood is stationed at Tobyhanna Signal Depot in Tobyhanna Pennsylvania and is among servicemen being sent to Europe.
Glen Rose defeated the Joshua Owls 15-0 last Friday as Lou Aston and Steve Omelan connected on a late scoring pass. Lonnie Halbert led the ground game with a 26 yard TD run and Glen Rose opens district play at Hubbard tonight at 8:00 with Hubbard seeking redemption after a loss to Kerens.
Mr and Mrs Eugene Ratliff of Harlingen are the proud parents of a baby boy born September 14 in Clifton Hospital. He is named Eugene Weldon and weighed 9 pounds 10 ounces. Grandparents are Mr and Mrs J R Hodges of Turnersville and Mr and Mrs Ben Ratliff of Glen Rose.
Naval Aviation Cadet C. E. Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie F. Walker of Rainbow Texas, is undergoing all weather instrument flight training with Training Squadron Six at Whiting Field Naval Auxiliary Air Station Milton Florida.
