Clebur ne Man Drowns In Brazos River Tragedy
Funeral services were held for Steven Charles Hughes 22 of Cleburne who drowned Saturday night while swimming with friends near Glen Rose. A large rescue effort involving Hood County Volunteer Rescue Units fire departments and police searched the Brazos River until Hughes body was recovered Sunday morning about a mile downstream. Sheriff J C Montgomery ruled the death accidental by drowning. Hughes a Fort Worth native had lived in Cleburne 10 years and worked as a welder. He is survived by his parents Mrs and Mr Charles Hughes a sister Paula and grandparents L M Anderson Mrs Martha Dickey and Mrs Ruth Anderson.

Two Men Arrested Here on Check Charges
County Agent Doyle Cooper said Jerry Morris and Ross Peacock with the Texas Animal Health Commission tested 1 500 cattle in Somervell County for brucellosis and will be recertified brucellosis free after inspectors reports return. Dallas H. Johnson of Columbus Ohio and Fredrick Monroe Kirtner were picked up by officers from Cleburne and Granbury on worthless check charges. They drove a stolen 1969 Chevrolet pickup and Johnson posed as Deaton forging checks. They passed two checks here and other towns. they remain jailed in Cleburne.

QB Club Set To Meet Tuesdays At Glen Rose High
J. D. Martin, president, reports Glen Rose Tiger Quarterback Club now has 60 members. Meetings will be every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium during football season. The club seeks more members and invites all community men to join. Annual dues are five dollars.

Hico Couple Hit Horse While Driving on Highway 67
Mr and Mrs Issac Earl Booth of Hico escaped injury when their 1971 Dodge struck a horse on the highway right of way about 10 30 p m Thursday forty miles west of town near the Earl Jackson farm. The horse was killed and the car sustained about 1200 in damage.

Mrs. A. H. Roden Buried Tuesday
Funeral services for 89 year old Mrs. A H Roden were held at Mt Zion Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Andy Hudson officiating. She died in Odessa after residing there six years. Born August 25 1884 in Alexander Erath County she married A H Roden in 1908 and moved to Chalk Mountain then Glen Rose before business in Odessa and Midland. Survivors include three sons three daughters two brothers one sister and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Burial was in Chalk Mountain Cemetery with grandsons as pallbearers.
