The Somervell County 4-H Club held its August 17 camp at Camp Tres Rois with thanks to counselors Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Reynolds Mrs. Sam White Sammye White Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hulsey Mrs. C. E. Whitt Mr. and Mrs. Mimms and Doyle Cooper. Officers elected included Camp Chairman John Shackelford and Songleader Judy Ivy. Activities featured crafts swimming a talent show and a mysterious light sighting dubbed the Beast of the Brazos.

Fire at Nazarene Camp destroys car in Glen Rose
Glen Rose firemen answered a call Saturday afternoon and extinguished a blaze on an automobile at the Nazarene Camp. The 61 Buick owned by Rev. Amos R. Meador was a total loss. Rev. Meador received minor burns on his hand and arms and was treated and released from Marks-English Hospital.

Funeral services for Scott Fretwell at Cottonwood Baptist Church
Scott Fretwell born December 15 1896 died August 28 at the Cross Roads residence age 64. He lived in Cross Roads all his life and was a World War I veteran. Survived by wife three brothers Joe Abilene George Emmett and sister Mae Shilling Jal. One son preceded him in death. Burial Nancy Smith Cemetery Brister Funeral Home in charge.

Social Security Benefit Increase for Widows and Dependents
About 1.5 million older people including widows and dependent relatives will receive automatic 10 percent increases in Social Security benefits under new amendments. The raise applies to widows age 62 or older and to certain aged dependent widowers and parents, with checks arriving automatically in September. Contact local county representatives at the county courthouse on the second Tuesday morning each month if unsure of eligibility.
Telephone Office Hours Changed in September Start
Beginning September first the Telephone Office will open at 9 a m and close at 4 p m with a noon closing from 11 30 to 1 30. It will be closed Saturdays Sundays and holidays and weekdays operators are now located in Cleburne with a direct dial to that exchange.
