The city lauds Advisor Bill Cowan and the Future Farmer Chapter for installing a new flag pole on the courthouse square and applauds County official Asa Lipscomb for cleaning and beautifying the Community Center grounds. County Agent Doyle Cooper promotes Glen Rose Round-Up Show and Swap by the Rollin Rock Club attracting many locals and visitors.
Bill Vineyard eight and Becky Vineyard suffered injuries in a Wednesday morning crash when Seaborn Nichols driver of a pickup turned onto Farm Road 203 from Highway 144 colliding with the Davis auto. Bill fractured a leg and Mrs. Davis sustained facial cuts. Both were treated and released at Meridian hospital. Nichols remained hospitalized in Clifton. The Davises were en route to Houston to join Andy six at Texas Medical Center where he is recovering from heart surgery.
Marilyn Gibbs as annual staff editor and Diana Adams as associate editor were chosen by the Senior Class. Judy Gosdin named business manager by Principal Charles Gibbs. Tommy O Neal elected Student Council president with Gary Dempsey as vice president and Lisa Gibson as secretary.
The superintendent announced new immunization rules to cover measles and polio in addition to diphtheria whooping cough and smallpox. The policy starts in September 1970 and applies to all first and second graders, including transfers needing certificates for all five diseases.
The Spencer Scholarship Fund committee selected four Class of ’69 graduates to receive $200 scholarships. Teddy McLemore Larry Hulsey Gaye Lee and Charlotte O’Neil were named recipients with Sharon Whitworth and Cynthia May as alternates. Local contributions totaling about $800 funded the awards, with a matching offer to reach $2,500 to sustain the fund annually.
An ice cream supper sponsored Saturday evening by the Somervell County Historical Society netted $101.20. President Sam Freas says the funds will be used to improve the society's museum and asks the Reporter to thank all participants.
Memorial Day will be observed as a full holiday with banks post offices state and federal offices and the courthouse closed all day creating a three day weekend Local businesses reopen Saturday A memorial service for war dead will be held at 10 am on the courthouse square with VFW and American Legion members This marks the second of six Chamber of Commerce holidays following New Year's Day and upcoming dates including July 4th Labor Day Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Mr and Mrs Eddy Pollock arrived last week from Alaska for a furlough visit with their parents Mr and Mrs Morris Pollock and Mr and Mrs Jay Ivy and families. They will return to Fort Wainwright near Fairbanks Alaska on June 11, departing Love Field Dallas.

Law officers reported three local burglaries in the past week with two discovered Saturday morning and one Sunday morning. Whitworth Station & Garage and H A Jackson Auto Sales were hit Friday night through broken windows. various items including cigarettes, tools, silver, and a 1965 Pontiac were taken. A third break in at Bill Mullen Texaco Station on Sunday yielded nine tires ten tubes and four batteries missing. no leads were available at press time.
The Glen Rose High School Future Farmers of America Chapter under advisor W B Cowan Jr built a 56 foot flag pole on the courthouse square funded at 50 dollars with 25 paid by county commissioners and rest from community friends. The pole honors Vietnam veterans and a Memorial Day program led by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars will start at 11 am with a guest speaker and welding by Glenn Blackie O Neal.
The Second Annual State Rock Show and Swap by Rollin' Rock Club of Texas draws hundreds of spectators at Oakdale Park skating rink. Doyle Cooper thanks Alton May and club members. winners include Hilma Rierson Waco and Otto Schlemeyer Waco with masters gold trophies. other trophies awarded to from Pasadena Dallas Fort Worth and Galveston. The world-wide organization plans a third annual meeting at Oakdale Park next year.
Levy Bivens reports his wife suffered multiple injuries in a New Year’s Eve auto crash. She has been out of a body cast for three weeks and can now sit in a wheelchair at their Brazos Point home. Therapy in Fort Worth is planned in about three weeks.
Ricky West son of Mr and Mrs Leon West visits home from Chanute AFB Illinois on a 20 day furlough after completing a four month aircraft maintenance course He will then report to Dyess AFB Abilene for a six week school and be stationed there for 18 months
The smallest graduating class in years, nine boys and ten girls, will receive diplomas at 8:15 p.m. in the high school auditorium. Charles Freas and Larry Shackelford post colors, with "O Red and White" by Bobby West and Marilyn Gibbs. Rev. C Edward Shipman gives the invocation and Teddy McLemore delivers the salutatory. Lalla English is valedictorian.
A display ad announces the opening of Billie’s Boy’s Shop by Mrs. Jodie Reynolds. The store will be in a building in front of the Reynolds home on East Highway 67. Visitors are invited to view the new lines of boys wearables.
Glen Rose Somervell County Chamber of Commerce directors met to discuss expanding the Third Monday Trades Day to include the downtown area during the weekend activities. George Hudson was tasked to contact local businessmen about the plan. The board will reconvene Wednesday to hear a report and to plan the July 4th Roundup set for July 3-6.
Lewis Reynolds, owner and operator of Reynolds Funeral Home, entered Harris Hospital in Fort Worth for ear surgery scheduled today. He is listed in stable condition and expected to recover after the procedure.
